Possible ink error?

Purchased this very nic(h)e comic-con promo with a possible ink error. Im curious what the other E4 members think of it and what the error would be called. Thank you in advance!

p.s : It kind of looks like lucario is wearing colourfull stockings :joy:

Kinda reminds me of the yellow ink errors in EX Team Rocket Returns. I think the Delibird I have is the only misprint I pulled myself as a kid.

Anyway, I think it’s a yellow ink error in this case as well. Covering some places at its legs; a portion of its tail; and the second at its shadows.

Exactly! It reminded me of that error as well, thats why i decided to just gamble on it and buy it before knowing for sure if it was a legit error or not. Thank you for the response :love_you_gesture: Would cgc recognise this error? I doubt PSA would

I’m unsure what the technical term is for this effect (maybe ‘Color Banding’ going off a cursory Google Search), but it’s possible for compressed photos in eBay listings to give off that rainbow color. It’s good to compare with other listings from the same seller to see if this might be the case on any of their other cards, like this Kangaskhan here:

You can see the same purple/green areas on the grey of Kangaskhan’s head as on the grey of Riolu’s legs. So not an ink error I’m sorry to say, but nice eye all the same.

Ahh you’re probably right! Thats a shame, but thank you! That is the same seller as the riolu haha. You’re a great detective

IMO this is not solved to my satisfaction

While I’ve yet to really explain why, I see weird artifacting, color shifting, smearing and stuff on images, and it isn’t just an ebay thing. I’ve seen it on images people share elsewhere. It seems to be something that happens with crappy phone cameras, particularly iphones. But the green circles show off what I can only describe as the “smearing” effect.

While the downscaling moire effect is a thing, its not as noticable to me here. the kengashkan that shockerb37 posted is a great example of a moire downscaled image. This kind of thing happens a lot because printers print dots, which you can see if you zoom in far enough. Frankly, the dots on the riolu don’t at first appear to be downscaled. Though its possible. It might be a slight downscale. The image has absolutely been compressed. You can see the jpegifed squares if you look hard enough.

One thing to note is the smears, again as I’ve said. You go from being able to see the dots of ink, but then in many spots that just smears away when there is a color change. And I notice it most on darker and lighter shifts. I’ve seen this a lot. But what really gives away that the camera is doing something weird, is when you often look at text on cards. I put a green square around the text below the comic con logo. It looks like something smeared it into hieroglyphics. I don’t know why this happens.

to any sellers here, if you want me to appreciate you more, don’t use phone cameras, certainly not iphone. Or rather don’t use the default camera application, that is most likely the culprit.

I wish I could give better info, but I’m just sharing what I’ve noticed. Either way, I think this is a normal riolu card, and only a different image, scan or seeing it in person would verify it. But I do believe still that the color banding is still an aspect of the image and the moire effect.

EDIT: Forgot to actually attach the image
