Pokemon Pocket Megathread

It’s amazing that this app successfully turned a bunch of collectors into players.

I played a bit during ex era, bw and sm for the record

I tried picking the same slot for wonder picks for about a week and I feel like the app knew what I was doing (it doesn’t, but I feel like I was doing even worse) So now my new technique is to blindly slap the screen and my results already feel much better!

I like that! Very tactical😂

I did the same thing! Solid week or two of consistently picking top middle. Pulled nothing. Very FIRST time I decide to switch it up and go for bottom right, I flip a turd.

Wanna take a guess where the Mew ex was?

I really am liking my slap technique. My last 3/4 blind slaps has resulted in me getting the special card I was going for, I just did it right now for the Pidgeot carrying the Magikarp with another success!

I did play way back and still play with friends and some local kids. This format is very user friendly, simpler and FREE. I imagine now that we have an expansion the meta will become more dominate and take some fun out of playing fun creative decks. For instance lost 5 in a row to Celebi EX. Reminds me of the fall of Haymaker. :pikadead:

What are people playing now? I still feel that Mewtwo/Gardevoir is the strongest and most consistent.

The Mewtwo deck seems brainless and no fun at all. I still use the deck I posted above. Against Mewtwo its probably 50/50, mainly a race between getting Gardevoir and Pidgeot ex out faster. But in general I like it because there’s not one particular strategy you just play on repeat, you have to adapt to every game. Way more fun that way.

Thanks for sharing that deck. Looking at it on paper I was skeptical, but playing it was so much fun that I used it for all the event missions :slightly_smiling_face:

I have a few decks I cycle through: Alakazam/Weezing (credits to @DeekBoy for this idea!), Starmie ex/Golduck, turbo (?) Machamp ex (Machamp line + Meowth to just draw and set up Machamp asap), and recently, Weezing/Arbok. The last I’m having fun with because you’d be surprised at how forcing no retreats messes game plans up (since there’s no other general way to switch pokemon out at the moment). Used to love playing Lilligant/Venusaur ex, but I think it’s too slow for the format now.

Most of the time, it’s still comes down to luck, so I can pull off wins against meta decks depending on how quickly I can set up and how slowly the opponent sets up.

I’ll have to give that deck another try.

The Mewtwo deck is simple but it’s so consistent that the fun for me comes from trying to figure out your opponents win conditions. I generally don’t enjoy cards that rely on your opponents set up like Gyarados or Pidgeot. Or cards that require coin flips like Articuno and Celebi. Too many random elements.

@bbobrob Weezing/Arbok is super fun. I like how you don’t have to play any EX’s so it makes it more difficult for you opponent to win by default. I should pick up that deck again and try that Machamp one too.

A really fun but unreliable deck is Dragonite. Draco Meteor is really satisfying when it knocks out two Pokémon at once!

I remember getting rolled by Dragonite before Mystic Island came out  Unfortunately, I don’t think I have any Dragonites. Aside from Dragonite, there are more decks that rely on the stall-until-one-pokemon-is-set-up strategy now (e.g. Golem and Gyarados). Dragonite would also probably benefit from new tools like Druddigon.

I find by the time pidgeot ex is up you have a lot of control over your opponent. It will be late game so you’re probably going to have flute and Giovanni in hand which does 150 with a full bench knocking out Mewtwo. Having the regular pidgeot also gives unlimited Sabrinas

Pidgeot ex also has 170hp so as long as you preserve it on the bench you’re almost guaranteed 2 attacks with it.

I try to start with salazzle since the poison only costs 1 energy and does 20 per turn. Druddigon is knocked out at the end of the second turn and you have the attack advantage. Celebi is weak to fire so it eats most of the HP. The opponent doesn’t like poison so they typically switch with like Mewtwo/mew, but one salazzle attack already guarantees pidgeot ex can take out the Mewtwo without a full bench.

Chatot is suprisingly good too. Most of the common decks take a few turns to get going so Chatot does a perfect job at accelating the pidgeot. Its also fun to take a huge hand from Chatot then to red card your opponent. I usually do Chatot into salazzle when it is eventually knocked out so you force them to need 4 points to win. The biggest challenge is getting pidgeot ex up with 3 energies fast enough. Ive had a lot of games where the pidgey comes late or i just cant pull the pidgeotto fast enough. Starmie and Ninetales are annoying because they are set up to do 90 damage in a couple turns.

The amount of Charizard packs I opened to find the silly Victreebel that got me the Mew is ridiculous, haha. I was finally able to get one in a Wonder Pick!

I love my Dragonite Deck very fun, when it’s good it’s good, when it’s bad it Bad!. Also playing 2 fighting decks with Hitmonlee (A 4’11" powerhouse!) and Marshstomp. One has the Mankey line the other Golem, both use Hitmonlee to kick the bench antagonizing the opponent to knock it out so I can use Revenge. Then clean up with Golem or Primeape.

Sorry not sure how to share the deck

IDK guys, maybe because I played the TCG a lot previously, but with such a short game, and limited draw and trainer support at this time, it’s frustrating to take so much of the game for setup. I really just can’t get into battling…

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. The pokeflute interaction seems really fun and I was wondering why you only ran one Pidgeot ex. I actually just pulled my first regular Pidgeot today so I’m excited to try it out.

You can probably run two pidgeot ex but i like having the different options. The regular pidgeot is only one point, only needs 2 energy, has the built-in sabrina. Its unlikely youll ever get 2 pidgeot ex powered up in one game
