Many pokemon are designed as one-off characters but many others take on a sense of parity within the series. This game asks the question, what is the opposite of every pokemon?
Some are obvious like “Blastoise is the opposite of Charizard because they represent Red and Blue versions of the video games”
Whereas other pokemon are more nuanced, like what would be the opposite of dragonite? Another pseudolegendary or a pokemon that has opposite stats and typing?
Azelf is one of the great suicide leads, Suicune is one of the great “last poke”-threats. Azelf is the attack focused one of its trio, Suicune the defense focused one. They’re both blue, both part of a 580 legendary trio, both associated with fresh water, both capable of performing miracles from real world mythology (walking on/purifying water and astral projection.)
I always considered Magikarp and Feebas as “opposite” …
While Magikarp evolves into something aggressive and atrocius, Feebas evolves into something that basically represents beauty and finesse … They are like two opposite sides of the same coin …
Most of them are self explanatory, shuckle and regieleki have completely oppisite stats in game though with regi being focused on speed and shuckle focused on defense both being the most extreme in both classes
Ho-oh and Lugia are similar but these two were designed with each one in mind as a pair (before Kyurem made it a trio). Can’t have one without the other!
Me too! The addition of feebas in gen 3 added more depth to magikarp’s character imo.
They are both characters defined by a single negative trait, weakness and ugliness respectively, and when they evolve they transform into the opposite of their definitional trait. Gyarados representing destructive strength and Milolitc representing peak natural beauty.
