I’ve had the fortune of witnessing pure cringe at the Yuka Morii signing event in London. As is the norm with these events, the artist will not sign Pokemon cards. There were plenty of warnings before meeting her. Signs were displayed on the televisions in the waiting area, and event coordinators handed out event cards to be signed as you entered the venue.
Still, leave it to English people to ignore instructions written in their own language. I would say nearly everyone in the queue was trying their luck with a Pokemon card. I even saw a woman clutching a Shroomish card for at least an hour. Anyway, we get close to the front and there is a guy who brought a slab to be signed, the Snivy and Venusaur tag team card. Yuka Morii’s translator tells him they cannot sign it and that he is welcome to have the event card signed instead. The guy gets a bit stroppy and comes up with a genius plan. He takes the cellophane wrapping off the PSA case and has her sign the wrapper, then demands a picture to prove it is real.
It was painfully cringe to watch. Somewhere out there now exists a one of one PSA wrapper signed by Yuka Morii.
