Id think it should be safe to assume atleast 10 sets to have been made. If all cards survived is a different story.
If Marco was told that Akabane had 6 sets and 5 were sold.
The main seller that originally posted the alpha protos and recently sold the pristine 10 pikachu has said that he knew of 5 sets in an interview showing cards off before any of these auctions started.
Beam had said his educated guess was around 10 sets
Its unlikely that noone else from the early days bothered to keep some of these.
Once the seal was broken and people saw that Akabane sold others may have now as well or may in the future.
So I agree not to marry yourself to any numbers and as word comes out of more sets existing the Fomo will die down.
Indeed. Say in the very conservative example Akabane had 6 sets, who is to say that there are not 300 sets in the hands of the other creators etc (and the potential for uncut sheets which could bring the supply up by orders of magnitude).
In other news a whole bunch more have been listed for sale today woohoo!
I have the same opinion about the double sided holos, I think it’s more likely that it’s a test for the Ancient Mew than a test for the base set (especially if you take into account that these cards are the corrected version of the No Rarity which gives less sense to the second theory).
To be fair, we have known this has existed based on the old CoroCoro scans. It did stand out as a different art style from the one that shipped. It’s cool to know the backstory now.
Edit: Unless by “it never ends” you mean the naming conventions. Hopefully this is the last of it and there isn’t a secret “Delta Presentation” set that gets released. At this point, I feel like we are out of cards that we’ve seen glimpses of from CoroCoro and other sources.
