So much pokemon discussion in here. Nice-su.

Also waiting for selloffs or celery hands to dry up. Eyeballing the flippers… US are you kidding me?

Pokemon transcends the times and offers a lot more entertainment then it’s being priced right now. Particularly the Blastoise cards.

Is you a real one? Nice Tat ,Nick. Which E4 Member are you? Anyways, Well played - you don’t need to attend Wimbleton, you are already marked for success. This guy knows what’s up.

As a senior member of the Moonbreon Shilling Society®, I object to this characterization. What Pokebuffet is doing isn’t shilling - it’s cult recruitment.

It’s not cult recruitment. LOL :joy:

Just a fan talking about a card he like very much.

Considering other hobbies, collectibles, and specifically, trading cards, If we look at sports cards, and comic books, then what I would expect to see in PkMn in 20 years or even 40 years, is that the big ones, Base Charizard, Base Chansey?, Base Blastoise? will STILL be the most valuable. Kids today who can, will seek to collect the vintage stonkers, BUT they won’t be set collectors or completionists, like people who grew up around those sets. While charizard will continue to grow, will raichu? While Dark Charizard or Neo Lugia will continue to grow, will Neo Steelix? Umbreon? Maybe…

But will that umbreon resonate with kids collecting today, who look at it and say, the moonbreon was way better, or even the Karen Umbreon that came out recently…? IDK. I think some of these cards might not perform as well as similarly desirable cards now, from the same sets and eras. Just a thought. 40 years away is a long way off… I might not even be here! Haha!

I made a visual to articulate how I feel about the topic. Obviously it’s an oversimplification but it gets my point across:

For some reason, I see people trying to MacGyver these rockets together to justify their investments, Like piecing together a machine in Zelda: TotK, that proceeds to immediately blow-up in their face.

It’s actually kind of confusing lol.

In 10-20 years, cards released this year won’t be ultra modern.

There are cards produced today that are rarer than older cards.

Minter applies whether or not the card is modern.

Many young kids (Gen Z) I noticed are collecting fake pokemon cards in album binders. This is a cause for concern because at one point in their life, these kids are going to learn their parents have been buying fake cards for them. When they become working adults, they will “re-enter” the hobby as new collectors, pushing demand for English cards even higher heights.

When the Gen Z become working adults, vintage cards now will become antique, modern now will become vintage.

One fourumer also shared some days ago that the China market has strong demand for English (and JPN) cards.

The future of Pokemon TCG smoking hot! :fire:

Lt Surge will not get a full art when every gym leaders/elite 4 members has gotten one.

Imo, WOTC cards are at their peak.

I am in the process of selling my sealed collection and wish I had did so about 1-2 years earlier. I don’t think it would have made much of a price difference, just easier to move due to popularity.

The trend of wotc cards / boxes is indeed down for about 2 years now.
If you like what you have, price should not matter that much, but for some ‘investors’ it can be very hard to see their collection go down in price and as a result start selling. Its the classic buy high, sell low strategy. Few years ago was the peak, right now everything is finally back to normal for wotc and the pokestonkers that are left are all chasing the newest alt arts.
I very much welcome the current market.

Down from a spike during a unique historic event, but common vintage IS STILL significantly up from early 2019, which means it’s not down down in the long term. Considering that many markets are down right now, it’s interesting that vintage PkMn hasn’t dropped more.

When I see prices dipping of my cards, I think and see long term. Not short-term.

Literally everything is up significantly compared to 2019. Stocks, Btc, real estate and yes also vintage pokemon cards. Vintage pokemon cards however are relatively closer to their 2019 price than for example btc, real estate or stocks.

BTC was around 9K Q4 of 2019, shot up during covid, and is presently around 29K. about 300%
Vintage also has similar performers.
Real estate is actually under that in some popular areas.
IDK, in the end, I see no signs that vintage pokemon has been out-performed. In fact, some modern is doing better than crypto at the moment. Q1 2022 BTC was 39K :grimacing: Since we’re looking in our crystal balls 10-20 years into the future, we have to keep a perspective of similar breadth, not a more narrow one.

And specific to crypto, once a crypto currency runs out of nonce values, and no more coins can be minted, THEN what happens? Crypto is a very strange proposal when taken to it’s logical conclusion. We’ve never had an experiment like it. Could be cool. But new investors/collectors can always get another set card.
