Finally I have completed the ex era ex’s in their entirety!! In this photo set there are a couple cards missing, but I own them, sadly just not a binder copy or it is back in America. This is by far my piece that I am proudest of completing. I grew up in the ex era, and my first ever ex card was a Latios ex (Darn JP one not being holo ). From that point on, I had fallen in love. I was always jealous becuase my little sister always had the good luck. She pulled Blaziken ex crystal guardians, jirachi ex, and flygon ex. Eventually my luck turned around, but the biggest pull that I had, I didn’t even realize how rare it was : Gold Star Gyarados haha! I thought it wasn’t rare because it was ONLY reverse holo and Red Gyarados is so easy to get in the game so it MUST NOT be rare then.
Either way, I love everything this era has to offer. Other goals in progress are the entire foil sets, Almost done to where I can post photos. I also have the ambitious goal of completing entire reverse holo english sets… Gonna kill me probably.
Cards Missing in photo set
Rayquaza ex Tin (Eng)/Play Promo (JP) : In America
Latios ex Ex Dragon : In America
Latias ex Ex Dragon : In America
Lugia Ex Play Promo : Graded
I got SUPER lucky finding the mew ex play promo that I did, and the timing couldn’t have been better. The yen getting weaker helped me a LOT on that purchase and the condition is actually stellar in my opinion. Right place, right time, and I couldn’t be happier to finally stop whining about “It’s so much money!!”
Anyways, sorry for the lengthy intro, on to the cards!
The first page obviously is not ex cards, it’s just because I think it looks cool, and the different back designs aren’t often displayed.
I try to organize my cards in different ways depending on the special traits of the pokemon. For example, Rayquaza and Deoxys are always fighting, so I placed all of their most prominent copies on one page and on the middle row they are both facing each other looking like they’re about to attack. In the middle, I put Gardevoir for no reason other than it looks like it’s doing an attack that would stop both parties in their tracks. It also fits with the psychic typing on the page.
Otherwise it’s fairly standard stuff though. mostly by typing or the connection to the others on the page, i.e legendaries or eeveelutions.
Regarding condition, I’d say majority are between LP and NM but not gradeable. So lots have beautiful fronts, but the backs might not be amazing. My rocket’s ones tend to be that condition. Others are gorgeous cards overall, front and back, but may have one ding or dent that denies them being graded. Celebi ex is sadly one with a crease but it’s front is still very beautiful. Charizard ex or rocket’s entei ex are probably the worst in the binder at MP or so with rough corners and creasing. Not too bothered by charizard tho, it’s honestly one of my least favorite cards. Even as a kid I didn’t like it that much not sure if that’s a hot take or not
Ho-oh ex play is effed up cuz I got it purely as a binder holding spot. My good one graded a CGC 9. May regrade with PSA cuz I think it’s an unfair grade. Tho I need to review it.
Put simply though, fronts are what I care about. Back damage isn’t of any concern for my binders.
I’m still upgrading conditions though, actually just changed out my LP- blastoise ex with a solid NM- or so one. Gorgeous card maybe PSA 7 or so.
Maybe too lengthy of an explanation for such a simple question hahaha! Sorry, just my bad habit. Thanks for looking, though!
@trainerjack thank you very much! It really is one of the more diverse era’s in terms of art. I think eseries may still hold the crown though. Maybe just rose tinted goggles I haven’t paid enough attention to modern aside from CHR’s and whatnot.
@fourthstartcg thank you! I am very proud of the organization, at least of the first few pages. Yeah, without the promos and anything that has the title “ex”, it just didn’t feel complete. It still feels incomplete with the missing cards, but didn’t wanna wait till I’m back in America to post this. I eventually will pick up the play promo for Rayquaza, just can’t justify the expense right now, despite it being decently cheap. I also need the holo versions of the adv-p promo kyogre and groudon. But the holo versions are far more expensive and I don’t often find good deals
Thanks very much! Symmetry is paramount to me. Sad to say but the fact that I can’t nicely fit the regi’s into 4 spaces on the bottom of the TRR page perturbs me a bit haha!
Ok, I’ve got another massive one today! After several years, I’ve finally completed the entirety of the ex holos in Japanese!!! My god has this one taken forever. Majority of cards are NM, but a handful are not. I didn’t really wanna spend up on some like charizard, so I got MP copies instead.
The power keepers cards were the last ones to join the collection. I didn’t like forking over the 6000 yen for a card that is like $5 in English, but I had to do it for the continuity.
In terms of what is my favorite set here, I have said it in other threads, but Delta Species takes the cake. For me it was such a formative set. That was when I was buying most heavily, and have the most nostalgia. Not only that, but the Delta Arts are phenomenal all around. Such a unique idea. I think TRR takes the cake if all C/UC arts are combined in the set. I think it overall has better art, but Delta Species foils are better in my opinion. One of my future goals is gonna be to get all Reverse foils for every Ex era set, starting with TRR. Lofty goals…
But here they are, all in one place. I believe I’m not missing any, but feel free to let me know if I am. The empty space after sandstorm is there on purpose, but I can’t recall why I made it to begin with
