To my knowledge the blue and gold sets are made up of 16 Pokemon, and where Pichu is part of the blue foil for example (i.imgur.com/SXN0lu4.png), it is not part of the gold foil set (i.redd.it/fnehiodprnh41.jpg) - in fact, Pikachu is the only Pokémon which appears in both the gold and blue foil sets.
If you can find me a picture of a gold foil Pichu I’d love to see it, otherwise I don’t believe such a card exists.
Congrats on all those recent pick ups, it’s been great seeing everyone pick up all the unlimited WCP cards they were missing over this last year and glad to see you finally tracked down that Pichu
I’m not sure if I’ve got it linked anywhere already but my collection spreadsheet is here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/128UdcSeI7QNm30k-vgoY2Jw0e2Qyfuj4dLhDb4Op-oY/edit?usp=sharing. For English and Japanese unless it’s something very rare I’m only really after PSA 10-graded cards or cards which are mint enough to score a PSA 10 grade, though that said with PSA starting to grade all foreign cards I’m not sure if I’m wanting to go down the rabbit hole of going after non-English non-Japanese PSA 10s just yet.
Just yesterday I found another one as well! The last sale I’m aware of was all the way back in 2015 and this year I’ve found 2 to buy and learned of someone else who acquired one along with a whole load of other unlimited WCP cards recently, it’s bizarre how things like this happen sometimes.
That full sample set was at some point my dream goal to add in my so called full wotc set but it was already out of my league then and now the situation ofc is what it is, i’m really glad you got to add one in your collection as it really is a cool and precious piece of pokemon and pichu history!
Picked up a couple of new PSA 10 Pichu cards but it’s been a slow year so far. I now have 82 unique PSA 10 Pichu cards, made up of 77 TCG cards and 5 non-TCG cards:
I got the 4 cards from my February CGC submission back. The grades are in line with my expectations but I was surprised by a 6.5 surface on the 2nd Grade Pichu - not sure what that was for but I’m very happy with them all:
I recently put up a new blog post titled The 8 Identical-Artwork Pichu Cards from the English Expedition Base Set, you can read it at pichu.blog/english-expedition-base-set. This is the cover image from that:
Those demo cards are wild. Can I also just say that I’ve appreciated your simple and consistent backgrounds? They add a type of flair to your posts that are pleasing to the eye. The Design Contest ones are also super nice to see all at once.
I now have all Japanese and English versions of both artworks in PSA 10 which is a nice little milestone.
The other card from my submission was a Pokémon Fan Club card which I had yet to grade a PSA 10 copy of, bringing my total up to 80/124 Japanese and English PSA 10 Pichu cards.
That is made up of:
31/39 PSA 10 Japanese Pichu cards;
15/24 PSA 10 Japanese cards featuring Pichu cameos;
20/34 PSA 10 English Pichu cards;
14/27 PSA 10 English cards featuring Pichu cameos.
Of the 45 PSA 10 cards I still need I have 19 of of those in PSA 8 or 9 grades. This includes the only PSA 9 copy of the 2009 Design Contest Kindergarten winner card which is currently the highest grade, along with 2 PSA 9 copies of the 2009 Design Contest Pucchigumi winner card - one of which has an almost identical edge factory ding to the only PSA 10 copy graded and is what I believe caused the grade to get lowered on my copy.
On top of that I also have the only Pokémon TCG coin featuring Pichu in PSA 10 along with 4 other PSA 10 non-TCG Pichu cards.
I never would have imagined a couple of years ago having 70% of all the Pichu cards ever released in PSA 10 grades. Despite making incredible progress in this time though I still feel like I’m a long way from completing my collection - whilst I have the majority of the rare Pichu cards out of the way, it’s mostly common cards which nobody bothers grading that I now have left to find and those are sadly from sets with booster pack prices through the roof, so I can’t imagine I’ll have many of those any time soon.
Some recent Neo Genesis additions to my collection:

I also discovered that a PSA 10 Tyranitar Constructed Standard Deck Pokémon Collector card I got back in my recent PSA submission was the unlimited version mislabelled as 1st edition - it had been so long I had forgotten I’d even submitted that, and was a bit confused as to why I’d have graded a second 1st edition copy - so despite my last post saying I’m on 80/124 I’m actually on 81/124 which is nice.
That’s a great collection! I still need to get ahold of Lucky Stadium and Pokémon Center for my black star binder set. Those rose like crazy. Anyone think that there was a buyout of those cards?
For the first time in just over a year and a half I bought all of my graded Pichu collection together over the weekend to take a family photo. The quality isn’t great (if I ever do one of these again I’ll try to use a decent camera), but it’s nice to see them all in once place.
I have a big pile of cards ready to send off to PSA once they put their prices back down, but until then I’m mainly looking for the following PSA 10s if anyone has them:
Pichu - Secret of the Lakes (Japanese)
Pichu - Rampardos the Attacker (Japanese, 1st edition)
Pichu - Rampardos the Attacker (Japanese, unlimited)
Pokémon Collector - SoulSilver Collection (Japanese, reverse 1st edition)
Pichu - EX Emerald (all 3 regular serial variants)
Pichu - EX Power Keepers (regular)
Pichu - Mysterious Treasures (reverse)
Pichu - POP Series 9
Pichu - HeartGold & SoulSilver (reverse and regular)
Pokémon Collector - HeartGold & SoulSilver (reverse and regular)
I used to but for the past couple of years I’ve stored the valuable ones in a bank safety deposit box. I bought them all together over the weekend to move them to a new branch which has opened nearer to where I live.
In an ideal world I’d have them all on display in a big fancy display cabinet that I could look at every day.
It’s sad but I’d rather have them somewhere secure than risk someone stealing them (at least if they get stolen from the bank the bank would be held accountable for it!).
The main reason I started using Instagram was to catalogue my collection so that I can see the cards without having to physically view them every time. I’m hoping to get one of those fancy scanners everyone goes on about here in the near future to add high quality scans of all of them to my Pichu Master Set on PSA’s Set Registry.
