My Google-fu sense gives me a good idea what it is, but to make this fun: my first impression of this picture was those balls in super smash where it goes up in the air, opens and then random loot comes out (usually bombs).*Edit: Added photo
They’re all actually giant voltorbs too shy to look at the camera, real life pokemon breeder has been busy . Although my actual guess would be confetti balls?
boat buoys or maybe super monkey balls?
Giant bath bombs
Ornaments?
I was thinking that but decided against it
Japanese lanterns?
I would have assumed lanterns as well
My guess is Japanese lanterns as well, for new year celebrations. Maybe specifically from the year 2000?
Rice cakes.
GG EZ
I thought about the same thing!
But I have not idea of the name…
It’s a party ball
The guy looks like he’s being attacked by them
Ditto definitely got it right
They are called “fukudama,” and they hold small prizes or gifts inside. The name can be translated as “lucky ball.”

When Nintendo makes references to Japanese culture without you knowing it
I can still vividly think of the noise those balls make in the video game!
