pack price follow card price?

Obviously these prices are related, with often times sealed packs (100% heavy) costing more than most of the cards in the set in psa 10. We can see this correlation in basically all wotc sets, but I am looking into the statistical ideal time to sell or open or buy a pack.

I remember some people discussing grade rates in the past but cant seem to find that post.
what are the odds of a pack fresh holo to be a psa 10 vs 9 vs 8? (yes I know some sets are harder to grade than others and some cards are too) as generally as possible.

I know Z and G Emporium talks about this exact topic in his videos for Wotc cards

maybe thats where I heard it from. I know he deals heavily with jungle fossil and rocket and I am more focused on eseries right now. I dont know if the print quality is similar enough to extrapolate

E series are very scarce but some of my favorite sets. Expedition and Aquapolis wasn’t expensive at all to complete ungraded compared to how much the booster boxes are worth. Skyridge is another animal and some of the best art along with Aquapolis. But no idea how easy or hard they are too grade. One big fact I can add is even if they were easy 10s straight out of the pack there simply wasn’t a ton of E series product originally sold and printed. It also wasn’t popular at all for years so my guess is not many people graded these cards originally. Put it all together and you would think the prices would be real high but some cards from E series are surprisingly cheap even graded. For example a PSa 7 Aquapolis blissey sold for $35 not long ago.

aquapolis is my favorite set and I am currently not sure if I prefer getting a psa 9 lugia or keeping some of the heavy packs I have. Its a tough choice especially since the lugia tripled last month

@modestmudkip For tough choices I just go with what makes me happier. For me I like seeing cards in binders and having a lot of cards in good condition. Yes most won’t grade higher than a PSa 6 or 7 but it’s what makes me happy. If I took my collector mentality out of it and focused on making money I’d buy only sealed product and psa 9s. But doing something like that wouldn’t make me happy. It’s all a preference of what you want to do. On the other hand I’m very excited to be finished the meat and bones of my collection so I can buy some cards to sell to help fund my collection. I clearly prioritized building my collection over making money but my wallet hates me for it :joy:

Yeah I agree, Im all over psa 6-8 for my collection. I love the deals I can get there. But with my specific scenario I think I’ll hold onto the packs for a bit. I sold a lot to afford them so I think I should maybe see how the set grows. Theyre from the 1st and only booster box I own so theyre special to me. I think it should be near skyridge (even with no charizard) but Im sure it will never be there. Oh well

@modestmudkip Simply be proud to own them. I have zero packs of anything but wish i did. Money isn’t unlimited so all we can do is make the best of what we do have. I know if I knew as a kid by the time I became a adult I’d have basically every card I ever wanted I would be so happy. You can always get more things as you get older and more money comes in
