From 1998 to 1999, Carddass released eight parts of the Pocket Monsters Anime Collection Series. Each part was launched quarterly over the two years and featured 45 cards per release. The series captured memorable moments from the animated TV show – more information here.

The card below is from Part 1 of the series and showcases a beautifully vibrant scene from the anime. It features Starmie alongside other Pokémon, all presented in a visually appealing manner.

I am thrilled to have acquired a wonderfully preserved copy of this stunning card, which I treasure as one of my most precious favorites. It is an absolute joy to look at.

Awesome to get it in the highest grade, these can be super difficult for the anime carddass. These are also my favorites since my first intro to Pokemon was the anime. Congratulations on this card and thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

In 1998 (and possibly 1999), Banpresto released four parts of the Banpresto Battle Chips series. These chips were used with a chip-shooting device, and the objective was to push the other player’s chip out of the battlefield (or a similar gameplay concept). You can read more about the series here.

The chip shown below is from Part 1 of the series and is made of thick cardstock with a slightly shiny surface. The light blue, red, and Starmie’s purple colors complement each other beautifully, contributing to the chip’s overall appealing design. Due to their slightly smaller size compared to other chips or pogs, I find them particularly charming and striking.

Yesterday, I wrote about Part 1 of the Banpresto Battle Chips here. Today, I want to show you Part 2, which was also released in 1998.

This chip features Starmie in a sideways pose with vibrant colors of pink, light green, and blue. In my opinion, the chip looks really cool. I think the quality of the Battle Chips is excellent, which adds to the overall premium feel of the product.

In 1999, Hasbro released a comic figurine set called “Pokémon Trainers” (see picture below). The set showcased various trainers, and one of them is Misty along with Starmie and a so-called Battle Disc.

The Battle Disc featured a green-blue background with Starmie in the foreground. Personally, I don’t find the design very appealing, but its inclusion in the figurine set makes it interesting for collectors. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure if the Battle Disc was released in any other set. It seems possible, given that it appears to be part of a game. However, it would be unrealistic to assume it couldn’t be obtained through other products.

Given the fact, they use kg and cm as well as the different trademark line, this chip is from the European release (see pictures below in the details).

Merlin released several sticker albums, one of which was the 1999 Merlin Sticker Album Series 2, see reference guide here.

The sticker itself is not particularly impressive. While the depiction of Starmie is decent, the background is uninspired, and the overall presentation could have been more creative. That said, they did a good job portraying Starmie, and for that, I’d say the sticker fulfills its primary purpose.:grin:

According to this CGC cert, the Bandai Chip Shooter Series 1 appears to be one of the earliest series to feature Pokémon chips. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find much additional information about the series as a whole, aside from this useful post on e4, which includes some images of the chip fronts. Interestingly, not all chips share the same design on the back though:

Different backs of the Bandai Chip Shooter Series 1 (not mine)

In terms of design, I really like the style of Starmie’s chip, especially the subtle water background effect. It gives it a refreshing aesthetic that isn’t always present in some of the earliest franchise releases. I also appreciate the variation in the backs, though the one on Starmie’s chip is my least favorite.

I’m happy to have this chip in my collection, though I’d love confirmation on whether these chips were indeed released in 1996.

Pokémon Tazos are small collectible round discs that were found in bags of chips made by Frito-Lay and its subsidiaries around the world, in the 1990s and 2000s. source

Researching the Tazo releases is more complicated than it may seem. I was unable to determine whether the Tazo chip was released in the US or the UK. Based on my understanding, this would likely be the UK version, but I came across information that Starmie was not included in the UK release. As a result, I am simply analyzing the Tazo at face value, noting that the slogan is in English, the year of release is 2000, and the series is called Pokémon Tazo. In conclusion, the Tazo below appears to be an English version of the Tazo Series 1 from 2000.

I especially like the deep red color of Starmie’s crystal and the rich colors of the Tazo.

Thanks for the reply. If you would like to share your information, that would be great. I would love to learn more about them and correct my posting.

I used this source:,

and figured it would have to be the US or UK release judging by the design of the Spanish ones.

In 1999, Hasbro released the Battling Coin Game that had cases of golden coins with Pokémon stickers on them. The coins came in cassette-like cases with instructions on how to play the game and contained three different coins each. I was not able to buy a case with the coin yet, but I got my hands on one of the coins.
If you want to learn a bit more about the cases, I recommend checking out Jopo’s slime army collection thread, which has several great posts on those chips (click here).

I don’t like the golden coins much; in fact, I think they make for one of my least favorite items, besides the Meiji coins. They are just not my kind of collectible. But I have to say, they look fantastic in the original cases. So, eventually, I will have to get one, too.

In Germany, the website pkm.store sells mostly items that are also available from the Pokémon Center. While browsing the website, I came across a small necklace with a cute design and decided to purchase it. However, upon its arrival, I was a bit disappointed to find that the image quality on the necklace was very poor, and it appears to be an unlicensed product. Be that as it may, the necklace is now part of my collection and will be listed under the bootlegs category.

According to the label, it was manufactured on November 10, 2023. The image used on the necklace seems to be genuine—perhaps someone knows where it originates from?

According to this amazing post on e4 about the Pokémon Hanafuda cards, Nintendo’s first released product was a set of such cards. To celebrate this part of their history, they released two Pokémon-themed sets of Hanafuda cards in 2013 and 2016. These cards are well-known in Japanese culture and are used to play various games.

The artwork on these little cards is amazing and stunningly beautiful. I especially like the harmonious color schemes as well as the colors extending beyond the outlines of the actual Pokémon, which gives each piece an artistic touch with a unique appearance. The combination of warm colors and attention to detail is remarkable. I love having this little gem as part of my collection.

Yesterday a small shipment of flats arrived from Japan. I will have to identify some stuff before posting in detail about the items. So for now its just the pics without further comment.

Many items were part of lots and are not Starmie related. So if anyone sees something interesting to trade, hit me up.

In 2018/2019 there was a campaign called #My151:

The My 151 Campaign was a special campaign at the Pokemon Centers in Japan from November 16, 2018 to February 22, 2019. It featured the original 151 Kanto Pokemon characters in various special limited edition prizes, charms and more. The My 251 Campaign featured all 127 Johto Pokemon and started on June 8, 2019 source

Part of this campaing was this really cute keychain set. The quality seems to be fantastic and I am happy to have those two little beauties in my collection. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::star_struck::star_struck:
