I know many of us on this forum have TCG interests outside of Pokémon. Personally, I’m a big of the 1962 Mars Attacks series. I was interested to see what the Pop report looked like, and boy was I surprised!!!
For those unfamiliar, The Mars Attacks series presents an intensely violent imagining of a full-scale martian invasion. Parents of the day were outraged by the graphic depictions of burning flesh, bloodthirsty insects, and graphic human torture at the hands of our extraterrestrial enemies. Most kids’ collections went straight to the trash. Not many cards survived; and due to poor centering and lack of care over the decades, most grade in the 3-6 range. 16,452 cards have been graded BY PSA; none are 10’s. Now that is some low (no) pop!!!
Does anyone else collect from, or know about, an obscure series with a No-10 pop?
Outside of Pokemon, I have actually been building the 1962 Topps Civil War News 88-Card Set in NM Condition. For anyone that is into U.S. History like me, I would 100% HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Each card features art-work on the front with a “News Article” on the back (describing the image on the front). Being a history-buff myself, I can confidently say that each “News Article” is historically accurate. Plus, the art-work on these cards - while very graphic - is AWESOME! It was definitely a different time back in the 60’s - there’s no way they’d be able to print such graphic images on Trading Cards (marketed for kids) today!
You got me curious, so I just checked-out the POP Report: 16,558 Graded Cards with 123 PSA 10’s!!! There are still many cards within that series with no 10’s! From my personal experience, centering on these cards is KILLER! It’s really tough finding copies that have good centering.
I’ve collected many old sets especially tv series sets but cant really think of any with no 10s. I haven’t graded many of mine and most are stored out of state so I don’t figure to check them out anytime soon.
I do have mint Beatles sets from the 60s that I will grade one day for sure but my Hogan’s Heroes, Munsters etc I probably never will.
O Man! I wish I had known there were Hogan’s Heroes and Munsters Cards!!! My Dad is OBSESSED with Hogan’s Heroes and The Munsters! Haha Another one of his favorites is MASH - I actually bought him a MASH Trading Card Booster Box one year for his B-Day. We spent the next few hours opening-up the packs and putting together the complete set.
It was a small gesture on my part that he truly cherished! While the cards themselves don’t have much monetary-value, they have A LOT of sentimental-value - something that will remain with me forever now. It’s the little things that stay with you in life!
