There are hits & misses amongst them, as with most things Pokémon release. I wouldn’t say any of them are 100% awful, but Drampa is the only design that fundamentally changes the entire Pokémon; he goes from being a crap old man, to a fierce looking traditional Asian dragon.
Falinks is probably my favourite for being a derpy Megazord.
I have no plans to play this game, it has been still interesting to follow some playthroughs/multiplayer action and some of the Megas actually look nice.
Drampa, Chandelure and Froslass are clear winners in my books, designs look great and base stats are boosted from right parts.
Mega Starmie has been the talking point of new evolutions, still not the worst one and people should be happy all those Jolly/Adamant shinies from previous games have finally their time to shine in ZA ( assuming trading is already possible ).
Barbanacle was and still is one odd looking Pokemon. I think it’s safe to say they went too far with Zygarde. Since Halloween is almost here I’ll share free idea for costume: dress up as a bodybuilder who carries around empty 200 litre boiler, congratulations now you’re a Mega Zygarde.
to our loss, the worst form of zygarde is it’s mega form. It’s cells individually felt lot better. Also for barbanacle the technicality in it’s type change felt nice for me actually. It always felt as a rock/fighting pokemon and i feel mega did it right.
And honestly that drampa is excellent. I love when any forgotten pokemon gets a redemption and drampa is getting one here.
I’m really excited to see how the artists interpret the new megas in the TCG next year. Planning to build a casual Mega Victreebel deck so hopefully the regular ex looks cool!
There were very few great looking Megas from the originals so it’s not like this batch does a disservice to those. I’ve only not seen Feraligatr in action, but besides that, most look decent.
Drampa and Hawlucha are great- but similar to Banette, Mawile and Abomasnow it’s probably because they could be evolutions. Things like Chandelure, Scrafty, Falinks all are logical next steps and really I don’t think any of the new ones suffer from the old ‘let’s just add spikes’ design motif.
There are just choices that work better (Scolipede, Eelektross, Dragalge) and those that don’t (Dragonite, Clefable, Starmie).
I’d say Zygarde or Feraligatr would be the worse though. The first seems like a one-off design for story purposes and I’m not sure what is going on with the latter. Where does the bottom jaw come from lol
I like some of them. I would put a few in A tier but my only S tier is mega drampa.
Loving the stats as well. hyper beam stab after calm mind boost and 160base special will nuke everything. Too bad hes still one of the slowest in the game. Unusable outside of trick room
I’ve also added the four new Mega Pokémon that were missing from the tier-list (Chesnaught; Delphox; Greninja; and Flabébé). Isn’t Flabébé also the first Mega Pokémon that isn’t the final evolution, btw?
The individual rows are also ordered (the first and last A are pretty close to one another tbh, but the first and last ones for rows B and C are a pretty big difference in terms of how much I like them):
B are just solid, not much else to say about them tbh
C I still like in some aspects, although I defintely like the non-Mega variant of the Pokémon more (the only exception is Barbacle, for which this Mega Pokémon is a huge improvement, and I’ve been debating about putting it in B because of that, but that evo line is one of my least favorite tbch, and the Mega doesn’t really change that). Also, when I first saw the Mega Eelektross, I thought that would make for one crazy autoblower design, especially with that +/- to adjust speed.
