yeah i’m trying to be respectful of the artist’s style. even if its not for me, that doesn’t mean it isn’t “good”. i just wish more of the card space was utilized.
Yes. It’s maybe even an unlucky case, since it has a few lines of text in the attack zone, so nothing to fill the emptiness below.
I think ““uglier”” pokemons really benefits from an artwork that give them a bit more of personality. Otherwise if nothing is going on, a lot of people will just skip the card. So, in this sense I would say it’s ‘lackluster’, but it’s not meant to be offensive obviously.
Also, Aoki is doing really well with full arts imho and perfectly understands the medium so it’s possible that people expectations were a bit high.

I can see the artist is attempting the minimalist/zen style but not suitable on a card.

This set remains underrated in the shadow of the colossus that is 151. We have an AR Lechonk now, what more do people want?!
paradox and ruin mons. been waiting on it since playing the video game. we had sv2 which was amazing with the ruins. now just waiting for sv4. we’re getting closer.
