Hi all!
I’m a lifelong Pokemon fan, since Pokemon Blue, and I got back into the TCG a year and a half ago after quitting way back in the e-Reader era. I’m a completionist to the core, so I have to be careful about what I start collecting because I’ll want to complete the set/category.
My collection is pretty eclectic, so I’ll start off with the most novel ones: my errors/misprints.
I used to near-exclusively collect promos when I was a kid/teen. In 2022-23, I sold off my vintage collection, including my complete black star promo set and a bunch of “Winner” stamped promos, but I kept these two error First Movie promos. Maybe I’ll try to get the other 3 inverted stamps, but I’ve never seen another horizontal miscut First Movie promo like that Pikachu.
My wife also collected Pokemon as a kid, but never got to trade with anyone, so she opened all her cards herself. The one card of hers we kept through the sell-off was this strangely miscut Charizard, which she lovingly calls “her son”.
For years, she resisted the urge to “fix” him by cutting off the extra material, and we decided to search for other cards with the same error. After a year of scouring eBay and every misprint group I could find, we found some of his “siblings”!
I’ve also seen proof of a Mewtwo, a Ninetails, and another Blastoise. Our eventual goal is to get all 15 with this cutting error, which I’m assuming came from 1 shared sheet, but with my understanding of the cutting process, this could have affected more or even less than one sheet.
I also collect Chanseys, and I’m working on getting every English version. Of course, my love of novelty misprints extends to Chansey. Most of these are minor errors, but I made sure to get a PSA Black Dot too.
And here’s my work-in-progress English Chansey master set. I’m missing a lot of low hanging fruit, but it’s nice to have some reasonable goals to chip away at while I wait for a nice 4th edition and an affordable Sample Set to cross my path.
My number 1 favorite Pokemon is Mawile, and I have completed an English Master set, and I’m working on Japanese. I’ve also picked up a few other things, like Indonesia promos and a couple gimmicky NFCs.
On top of my master set binder collection, I’m gradually picking up PSA 10s of Mawile in English and Japanese. I never expect to get every version, but it’s still fun to check them off as I get them. I’ve also got a Chinese Mawile V graded by a Chinese company called RPA.
I’m fired up after seeing some of the other amazing and well-presented collection threads. I’ll be updating this thread and improving the formatting over time, and of course share any big new additions to my collection.
