Since I am a fan of sports this is a common debate we tend to have in the sports world. Wanted to do this exercise for fun, so wanted to think about the Mount Rushmore of the most iconic pokemon. IMO I tried not to be bias towards one generation of pokemon but what I came up with Pikachu, Charizard, Rayquaza, and Umbreon.
Honorable mentions but didn’t make the cut include: Mew/Mewtwo, Lugia, Gengar, Eevee, Sylveon, Dragonite, Lucario, Giratina, Greninja, Bulbasaur, Blastoise.

As much as Umbreon is my favorite Pokemon, it may be better to do Eevee. With how much Pokemon pushes it in Merch and getting Let’s Go Eevee, along with the evolutions just being popular in general (Vaporeon especially…). I don’t know how the popularity is for modern gen pokemon, so I’ll stay away from those. But what about Bidoof? It’s been memed into God tier along with Snom.

i feel like the ratio of how much TPC pushes eevee and Pikachu to how much people care about them is disproportionate. If pokemon marketing is to be trusted those should consistently be the top favourite mons, but they rarely are

I agree that Pokemon pushes these 2 way too hard. To the point that really it’s milking them. However, in terms of being iconic Pokemon that would go into top 4, I’d argue that they’re up there, even if they’re not up there in popularity. Everyone associates Pokemon with Pikachu. And the Eevee line/circle of life thing is also iconic.

Id probably sub Mew and Eevee out for Umbreon and Rayquaza. Yes that is total gen 1 bias, but if we’re being honest Pokemon has a bit of a gen 1 bias, haha.

As much as i would like to see it be properly made of four rock type pokemon as others too have suggested i feel like the three obvious picks would be pikachu, charizard and eevee, the fourth would perhaps be squirtle being a first gen starter leaving bulbasaur in the shadows again. Ofc the whole quartet would be in shade with the whole muk shaped mountain next to it.

I think these are solid picks if not trying to be stuck on the first generation. But, I’m a boomer, so I’m going to just say replace Umbreon with Eevee and Rayquaza with Mewtwo and it’s perfect
