I’m a fairly new collector as well, but I appreciate the 1st edition and especially shadowless Charizard more and more as I continue to collect. There are countless justifiable reasons to own one/both.
I’m curious as to why you see 1st edition as misprints? It was a planned and laid out run, not a mistake. I could see the argument for no rarity for being a “misprint” (sorry @pokemonsyndicate) but I don’t see why you’d consider 1st edition a misprint. Just curious as to your thoughts there!
And I totally agree on Stormfront Charizard. The other two were great, and I especially love Charmeleon, but the Charizard is a no for me.
You guys are literally the 1st people I’ve seen dislike Stormfront Charizard. Then again, I haven’t seen too many opinions of this card from high end collectors.
I kinda wonder if this opinion is popular, it would explain why this card has such a low value. Personally I love this card, maybe even more than the original, probably due to nostalgia.
@pulsar3 Since you’re a new collector, it would be hard to see you finding a justifiable reason to own a shadowless or 1st ed zard. I guess the bigger question would be; do you plan on owning, or do you own the Unlimited? Like I said, most people start with an unlimited.
supply and demand, 2 sold cheaper but now this was the only one on Ebay… Appears multiple people were after one after all so it drives up the price because none other are available finally some justice for this card. Hopefully we’ll see a period without one on ebay which will boost price
This happened when I was collecting PSA 9 1st edition base holos, where the prices peaked because there wasn’t much available. Then after people noticed the high sale prices, tons of the cards appeared on eBay for sale. A Gyarados auction ended at $600+, now you can buy multiple copies for probably $500 or less.
So the price could continue to be boost or people can see that this sold for $650 and decide they are willing to sell at that price. In the latter case, we aren’t going to see any price boost.
Saying that 1st ed/Shadowless are misprints/errors would imply that they were unintentional and they definitely weren’t. They fully intended them to be Shadowless in the beginning and decided to change it later on. If this wasn’t the case then they would’ve corrected the mistake after 1st ed.
You could argue the same for No Rarities, but they only had 1 print run. IMO there’s not enough proof, they could be misprints or they simply added the rarity symbol as an improvement. But Shadowless definitely isn’t an error.
It’s definitely more cost efficient to collect the unlimited base set, but you’re not getting the same thing. The word unlimited is the last word I want describing my collectible items. 1st edition base and shadowless had a different style card with limited print runs. It doesn’t mean they were misprints and therefore not a justifiable item to collect.
Didn’t your daddy teach you that drugs turn your brain into a fried egg? It has to be that because nobody of clear mind could make such an ignorant statement;)
You’re right, the last grade i listed(surface) was actually an 8.5. And that was the reason I was so dissapointed/pissed too - because it was so CLOSE to being a 9.5 Gem Mint.
And it turns out, I was mixing those grades up with another Charizard I had sold altogether. LOL
This is the unlimited Char I sold that I was mixing it up with. First Charizard I ever got when I was about 9 years old and it went straight into a case and never left until it was graded. Hence the surface grade was actually an 8.5, not a 9. *WAAAhhhh wahhhhhh…* : (
Back on topic: Just joined this forum (seeMyintroPost) because i bought me a very expensive charizard (price i paid was anything but undervalued…) but i would still like to throw it in here:
Yeah, my jokes don’t discriminate. Heck, I don’t even pay attention to who says what. I may sometimes check the sex symbol so I don’t speak inappropriately to a girl, but if it’s a stupid comment, like yours was, I pounce on it in a hopefully understood joking manner.
Anyway, since my humor kinda went over your head I apologize. I certainly didn’t mean to hurt you:)
Really all of the EX Series in general seems semi undervalued atm. Supplies of these sets weren’t exactly the highest and kids of the era are/have grown up/are growing up and are in more positions to collect said cards now
