Many of the Pokemon playtest cards were likely printed in 2024

Can you replicate this too?

Sorry, not following. What Akabane interview?

@pfm Can you check those 3 Charmander that I used in my message in september?

It could be interesting to see what is going one. The 3 cards are “bad quality/print” cards, 2 have the same printing artifacts.

Did you also check the CoroCoro Charizard?

So you’re telling me these are fake?

Oh i heard about some akabane interview from 3 people and im wondering what will actually happen with it.

Aparrently the man himself is going to explain everything.

Edit to say i doubt itll happen since hes being actively sued by pokemon.

It would definitely seem plausible that this overlay would happen if these were first scanned and then printed separately. Definitely curious to see how many of these are out there - we could theoretically exclude these without even worrying about decoding them if there in fact is this overlay happening.

The real question is whether you can trust anything in a cgc holder anymore given that this is all true.

Just chiming in with some appreciation @pfm. You were already a massive asset to this collecting space but considering this work being in direct contrast with your own personal stake it deserves serious recognition; and if it’s any consolation you’ve been instrumental in creating history in the TCG, fighting Team Rocket IRL. Young pfm would have been proud!

If they went this far to print these what would stop them from printing an illustrator or other trophy cards?Âż

Just replying to this as also offering same prices for a copy of aerodactyl.

One other thing I feel like everyone should be mindful of during this time is that although it may appear that Akabane was involved with much of these recently printed copies given his private signing events for many of the protos, it is also realistic that given CGC’s lack of due diligence in the authentication process, his autos could have easily been forged during this process. His level of involvement remains to be seen, and hopefully that clarity becomes apparent sooner rather than later.

F*ck, thanks for your investigation. If someone is able to do these scans to discover the metadata of a beta card, I bought lot of cards at auction a while ago but it doesn’t come from his personal collection. I can’t decide if it’s “good quality” like all these fakes or if I’ve been able to get past the fake, if anyone can put my mind at rest :joy:

Thanks for the work @pfm

I’ve done the test myself (with a custom python script) and the result also confirms the same date to the minute.

Share the HD scans (3000-5000p) and likely someone will look at it for you

I think it’s unlikely that the fakes were created by a person alone.

Akabane at least signed one full set of playtests (with someone from CGC present). So that means he acknowledged that this is how the playtests actually looked like. Maybe he really believed they were legit and he unknowingly signed fakes. Who knows.

BUT that means someone had to own the original files in order to print these or being handed the originals in order to scan and copy them.

So from my view it’s clear that someone involved or formerly involved with the creation of the PokĂ©mon tcg is responsible for this as well. Be it Akabane or someone else.
