Many of the Pokemon playtest cards were likely printed in 2024

Any trophy or prize card would work. They often have a rich history behind their distribution. Personally, I believe they have a more significant history than the ‘playtest’ cards, especially since the latter were never officially released

New tires for sure! Ungraded charizard can’t help you when your car is sliding sideways, unless that is what you want. No judgement here.

A couple weeks ago I would’ve said one of those tropical winds for $3k that have popping up. But in light of all this…uh…maybe not that right now.

Forget the tropical cards… I’m gonna get me a Blockbuster N64 Pokemon Snap Picture Printer Station.

I hope this isn’t just swept under the rug by CGC. I am willing to bet it will be. Refunds will be given and no new articles or press publications will be given.

CGC SHOULD make a full admission of guilt (after refunds) and explain how and why they authenticated them. Fingers need to be pointed!

We know that several iterations of prototypes/playtests exist as per CoroCoro and Creatures. And these copies were likely printed in the 1990s.

So it begs questioning, do other real copies exist? If so, were they used in the development of these forgeries or did the criminals gain access to leaked files and reproduce them without the real copies available? Which designs were made up and which were legitimately used in the 1990s?

Seeing the timeline, this also makes me wonder whether the release of the Creatures Deck (and specifically Beta Chansey) in December 2021 set off the criminal operation. At release and to this day, Chansey was selling for tens of thousands of dollars, which may have been a compelling reason for criminals to get in touch with Akabane and make forgeries of other playtest cards.

I got mine for 2k just last year so it is very possible. The guy did drive 6 hours to deliver it to me though!

I think an interesting and scary next turn for this story is that it is very clear original art files are being accessed by groups who are willing to do very dubious things with them. The playtests were a good attempt at using them, and the fake trophy sheets a very terrible one. But with some work and money those parties can probably get away with bigger and more intricate scams possibly without people knowing.

We know they have old art files for the betas through Linkdu’s analysis, and we have seen they have the original files for the trophies without any holo patterns. A scary prospect. Unsure if akabane sold them, sent them out, if they leaked through a compromised employee or who knows what. But once they are out, they are out

This is scary because now it’s not unreasonable. Old certs are about to have their redemption arc!

We have a handful of Konica Minoltas where I work. I will check to see what models we have deployed.

Guys, I’m starting to think that maybe these cards are fake…

Decided to go to the CGC booth at Collect a Con today… only one guy even knew what a Beta Playtest card was, but every single employee said they would probably just hold on to the cards instead of re-submitting them LOL…

So if the latest theory is correct does that mean the only card labeled Alpha Playtest that’s authentic is the Gyarados?

Multiple cards on that list are not confirmed authentic
