Been out of the loop for a couple days. What’s the consensus? Should I return my cards to CGC for the free review? Any idea what happens if they determine to be fake?
Haha they are definitely never grading mounted printed cards ever, ever again
No real update from cgc side yet. Havent missed anything yet.
Imo sending it in will kinda be required at some point since the certs still ringe up as fraud alert on the site. They won’t be able to be listed or sold anywhere until there is some resolution.
It was a joke
My HQ Beta is now in CGC’s hands. I wonder how long it will take to hear and update from them. Weeks?
I have a HQ beta also that ill probably send to cgc when im back from my trip in 2 weeks. Very curious to see how cgc handles them and please update with what cgc says on them. Thanks!
Was there any word on what CGC would do upon receiving the card? I would not have sent to them without some sort of statement on reimbursement.
I understand it’s a tangled mess and they have a chance to do the right thing here, but a lack of confirmation by the same company that got people in this predicament doesn’t sit right with me.
Nope. They have provided me no information at all. It’s basically a gamble if they will help us or not. That’s why I hope to share what I learn here. If anyone’s too hesitant to send in their cards, maybe my posts will help.
Fair enough, I’m rooting for you! I appreciate you leading the charge
I sent in my $9600 Alpha Playtest card to CGC, it arrived yesterday and I too will update ASAP. Hoping they have the honesty to admit that they were wrong and do refunds. Otherwise they will need to change their name to UGC (Uncertified Guaranty Company)
Can’t Grade Cards

They will probably just chemically test the glue if they were serious. It avoids having to analyze the work flow of creating the first cards. With out answers from former employees or decoding printer dots I doubt HQ betas will be authenticated or proven fake. Chemical analysis is the easier path.
That is what im hoping for to just chemical test the glue or paper itself if possible.
I personally think it shouldn’t be to hard overall as well to even batch samples
Test 1 HQ alpha b&w proto if glue fails they all fail since the others are copies of the HQ.
Test 1 alpha playtest from the early batch if it fails then can know everything is a scam with HQ beta having similar things to the alpha.
Obviously if one passes id hope for more confirmation testing with others. It would just be easy way to fail them like the way all the LQ betas have been exposed by the dots even without individual testing.

I just wish that CGC had a way to determine the authenticity of the cards in a way that we 100% know what’s going on and what’s fake and real. But to be honest I lost my trust in CGC and I will not send my Beta playtest in. I’ll only send my card in if they tell us how they are going to authenticate them this time. Im tired of CGCs “trust me bro”.
We wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place if CGC employed that level of discernment. While I have sympathy for all who are affected and huge respect for @pfm for his work on exposing this - absolutely none of you will be reimbursed the same amount you paid for your cards by CGC. I just have no confidence in them doing the right thing.
What should have been done:
Auction houses ask buyers to return their cards for their money back.
Then Auction houses send cards to CGC for reimbursement from their guarantee.
If an auction house is sending in dozens if not hundreds of these cards they have more leverage receiving reimbursement. They can even threaten CGC that their sites will ban future CGC cards if reimbursement is not sent.
That would be the best way for everyone to be helped.
I had this thought ealier, but I am pulling back. Auction houses won’t eliminate the potential to sell millions of slabs, even if most are not high value. The free $5 minimum fee per card adds up in a hurry.

Here is another mystery.
On the ALT website and all the forums promoting the Beta Playtest, the DITTO CGC 10 card had a weird paper fold mark towards the top right… including the CONGRATULATIONS from ALT when winning the auction.
However the card i received, mysteriously the paper fold had disappeared !
The CGC scan also shows no paper fold.
Perhaps it was simply re-printed ?
Thoughts ??
