Many of the Pokemon playtest cards were likely printed in 2024

Even if the ones in the photos are real, if you go and buy one, what are the chances they send you the real one?
With the amount of money involved, they could have easily improved the counterfeit quality a lot. Buy the expertice to have manipulated print dots, high quality scanners, printers and period accurate paper stock. So an untrained eye who thinks he understands the print dots and so on would be easily fooled.

If they are real, then Akabane and his grunts know the original serial number and print data, and could potentially reproduce it

I think so, at least I’ve never seen them before. Also, it’s wild that if this was indeed supposed to be the original art for base set, they left out Ooyama completely in the end.

For those that have received a refund check or have a check on the way from CGC, what day did CGC receive your card(s)? Just trying to see where I fit into the refund queue.

Akabane should give everyone who got caught up in this mess a real playtest card.

He still has a pile of real prototypes from that original instagram post so he definitely can check the serial number.

That said, you’d have to somehow hack the printer hardware to change the serial number and date and also somehow be able to make a copy that doesn’t introduce any print artifacts.

Not that I encourage people to buy more of these; just making a point that there is not much you can do even if you knew the correct serial number.

Its so hard to describe the feeling I get reading that message, a unique blend of disappointment, frustration and shock. It feels inhumane. I don’t know how anyone can go into this stuff with real optimism.

Anyone considering buying this crap again should ask yourself, is fire hot? Do you need to touch the stove twice to be sure? Is the desire to have the most unique, most exclusive, most rare cardboard to flex on everyone really that important?

Am I the only one who is shocked that TPC/TPCi has done absolutely nothing? Some kid in Kentucky could upload a 10 second fan-made audio track from a Nintendo property and get a copyright strike, but TPC/TPCi just lets Akabane wipe his ass with the IP.

I am beyond disturbed that Akabane and his grunts are not in prison and/or destitute from a wave of legal cases.

No need to make waves when you don’t need to. It really hasn’t been picked up as a mainstream story and creating the headline that a creator of the Pokemon tcg is a massive douchebag isn’t good for the brand.

There are ways to legally shut people up without bringing attention to the case…

If it was happening, I would expect less activity on the IG. Then again, criminals are not always smart.
