Oof so this all just down to lotteries and hype. I don’t see how this is sustainable but then again people have been giving lotteries money for free for decades and aren’t stopping any time soon.

Speaking of lottery, hoping that certain Trainers will stay super popular is a dangerous gamble anyway. A base set Charizard or a Shining Mew will always retain their value - not just because of the older rarer minter better rule, but because these species get re-introduced to the TCG over and over again. Anyone who’s interested in Pokemon will get to know these popular species and will be interested in owning valuable cards of them. But Lillie? In 5 years, how many people will still have an emotional connection to a trainer that only appeared in one gen a decade ago? I don’t see the demand for these trainers for these crazy prices in the long term.
I think Pokemon are starting to lean very heavily into Supporters though.
As a company too, they developed or had Masters EX developed which is basically all the trainers and their aces.
The extreme manipulation is probably why the prices may not hold but I don’t think character popularity matters. I’d even say that there is more potential for them all to go up. The Ingo & Emmet card soared in price when Legends Arceus came out and I can see Pokemon integrating their characters more and more as time goes on.

Bold prediction, I have to say. I guess time will tell if there’s substance to the current hype of these supporters, although I still think it’s mostly waifus that are going through the roof right now.

I remember getting into the hobby in the beginning of the pandemic and was interested in trainer cards overall. Saw this on Ebay at the time for like a couple thousand dollars. The Guzma Extra Battle Day was like 300$. Never thought Lillie would go this high lol. Yall think Acerola or Guzma would be near this price?
I think Acerola and Guzma have legs to stand on on the basis of being essentially prize cards and having a relatively low distribution (Acerola is also somewhat popular as far as full art trainers go too), but EBD Lillie seems to be on another level as the grail for female full art trainer collectors.

I remember seeing a huge lot (25-30) of psa 10 Chinese versions of these lillies on pwcc last year, they all sold for well under market for about 450-500each. I picked up as many as i could at the time which was 3 from that lot. Sold one right after and one two months ago for 1100. Apparently its now selling for 5000 on ebay.
This is insane price movements. I dont know what to think.
I dont think its done yet either, especially when pokemon pops off in china this could be the new grail(speculating obv) waifu as im sure the wiafu demand is huge in china too when they catch wind. Even the chinese ultra prism lillie is now selling for 1500.
The “budget option” mooned so quick.
Too bad English never got any of these to soften the blow.

Just bought the cheapest Chinese raw Lillie I could find (kinda wish I did that last week when they were 1/4th the current price, but the cheapest after the one I just bought is 2x that price again and I have the feeling it’ll multiply in price for a short while…).
Will see where this first auction ends up at and then probably try to sell my entire Japanese PSA-10 EBD trio soon. (Now that I think about it, I hope I graded them sequential. 
)
As someone who almost never sells anything from my personal collection, I’m kinda sad to have made this decision. 
But I’m gonna use the additional money to buy my first house within the next year most likely, and could use all the money I can get, considering the housing market isn’t exactly cheap either these days - especially as a single starter without previous home equity.
But I’m kinda running ahead of schedule here…
