Just got my shadowless charizard graded by PSA - MINT 9

I hate to shoot down my brother in China but if I understood him right, that’s total bunk;)
The graders have zero interest OR ACCESS, during the grading process, to the pop report.

Secondly…

Under grading a card doesn’t occur. Only over grading. The graders lower a grade if they see something wrong. That’s it. If you don’t see something wrong, or overlook something wrong, the grade won’t be docked. So a 10 may be an 8 but an 8 never deserves a 10.
Did I explain that clearly?

I have been submitting for years to both PSA and BGS for sports cards, and I absolutely agree that grading is one’s opinion and like someone mentioned earlier, would you be be inclined to crack a PSA 10 out of the case that you felt would be (or be happy with) a 9? Absolutely not. I don’t see a problem honestly with re-subbing…if it is a 9 or 10 why not submit again and hope for the 10? Someone may feel the same feelings of someone else. Just because I am the owner of a card does not mean I am biased towards it. I have had much worse cards grade a PSA 10, so why is it unreasonable to think this could not get a 10? Does not matter if it was in my hands or someone else’s, I would give the same input about the same card to whomever it was that owned it.

As much I like to joke around about things being conspiracies/inside-jobs, I think the proof is in the pudding here with PSA grading being accurate more often than not. Just look at Base Set Charizards. The % of 10’s graded for Japanese Charizards is 27%, in retrospect it is 9% for Eng. 1st Ed., and only a minuscule 5% for Eng. Unlimited. I think everyone here can agree that Jp. cards grade much higher than the english counter-part (with few exceptions). If PSA was purposefully holding back on giving out 10’s in Pokemon then the Japanese % numbers should be on par with the English %'s. Since they are not I have no reason to personally believe PSA would alter grading populations for any reason, especially in pokemon.

To piggyback on what Gary said, I think it’s more of the grader’s mindset to look at a card and try to find “what imperfections make this card not a 10” rather than “lets find whats perfect about this card for it to be a 10”

Good point and well stated.

As to the other post…if one grader found enough wrong with a card to knock it down to a 9 then at no point ever would I like to pay a PSA 10 price for it just because on the regrade they overlooked or gave less of a knock down for the problem. If I’m paying for a 10 I’d like it to be solidly inside the grade.
Now yes, sometimes a problem will be missed in the initial grade but not due to manipulation and we must live with that. As Scott said, after all it is a 3rd party opinion.

That scenario of someone cracking open a 10 to be re-graded at a lower grade, as far as I know, hasn’t happened yet.

Do understand that there are cards that are considered “sliders” that may grade 9 or 10 depending on the grader. People who have looked at hundred of graded cards or submitted tons of cards for grading have a very good feel of grading and what to look for in a card to get a 10.

It’s your money so you can resubmit your card as often as you want until it gets a 10. You can always “hope” for a 10 even with an obvious off-center front or accept that the card is a solid 9. It it was my card, I’d be thankful it wasn’t given a grade of 9 (OC).

Hope you get the grade that you want. Cheers!

I just want a Chinese 10 charizard. That’s all. That’s all I ask and I’ll stop with the complaining and theories damn it!!

Well…I feel I got done on the pack fresh (don’t say it, I know that doesn’t equate to a 10) card I sent in. It was perfect. I’ll see when I get it back. Perhaps they damaged it or something. But it was genuinely a wrong grade. At least 9.

I have two left to send in. I’ll stop whining soon enough I’m sure
