July 2000... What's hot

In case anyone was wondering… “what’s hot” back in mid 2000. Here is what the old School Beckett has to say.

Glad I still have these old Beckett magazines to look back at.

Super interesting to see. Where’s blastoise 1st edition shadowless!?

I remember when ancient mew was a big deal. As a kid I thought it was one of the rarest cards.

I had the same question. You’d think he’d be at least top 5? At least Dark Blastoise gets some love. Around my young circle, Ancient Mew was top dog.

I’d say that Lugia is still pretty hot.

Oh and uh, people seem still into the Charizard I hear.

That’s a great find, thank you for sharing! What’s that Azumarill doing there haha

Dude I totally bought a Japanese Neo Pichu around that time for 20$ at my local card shop. Was my favorite card at the time. I still have that card in a top loader lol.

This is a few months before the gold and silver games came out in English while neo genesis was not released in English until December that year. Western people did not really know much about gen 2 yet, but Marill, which evolves into Azumarill, was one of the earliest gen 2 Pokemon introduced. So I guess that is why its on the list together with Pichu and Lugia. Neo genesis togetic and steelix were for similar reasons probably close to make this list. It is strange though that base set Blastoise is left out. It was by far the most playable card of the three starters. Big fan of Dark Raichu in the second spot!
