Jpn cards at psa differences with english??

I have not submitted any jpn cards to psa before and only 20 or so english ones. I know jpn cards have general better quality in the neo era than their english brothers, but I was wondering if the grading standards are different. I’ll use this japanese card as an example. It has minimal scratches and good centering, if it was english I’d expect an 8 min, but I dont know for japanese especially since the back has some scratches. Anybody have experience here? Thank you

I’d expect an 8 too, although some people might tell you “Wow with those major scratches I’d expect a 4” LOL. I have never seen a 4 look that good. That looks NM to me m8.

yeah its not so much about what that card would grade more so about if they know jpn cards dont get as beat up and therefore grade them differently than english??

It is highly unlikely that graders take the difference in card stock between english and japanese cards into consideration. They are trained to assess the condition of the card based on visual appearance alone and the standards are well defined. A scratch is a scratch.
I might add that this is what drives the disparity of “low pop” cards. PSA doesn’t care if a card is notoriously a “hard grade” due to manufacturing quality, they should hold it to the same standards as a card produced from low-defect print runs such as new back Japanese cards.
