Couldn’t take the heat brendan is dishing out! ![]()
Saw the Pikachu in PSA 10 sold for $12k a few weeks ago on Fanatics lol
Edit: actually just noticed this doesn’t have the offset retreat cost. Very odd…
Doesn’t that mean it’s just the more common non-glossy variant?
Seems to be a mislabel indeed.. I feel sorry to whomever bought it thinking it was the Glossy 1998 variant.

Great info!
Hey, just wanted to let you know I’ve come across another PSA cert 1998 (CONFIRMED by PSA to be glossy) with a CENTERED retreat. This is incredible and adds another layer of complexity to an already incredible card. Such a legendary card. @bbobrob @prochaos
Oh. That doesn’t sound good to people still looking for the Glossy Keiji Kinebuchi variant, when they can’t rely on the differently centered Energy symbols.
Do you have the cert number of that Ivy Pikachu? And is that cert new enough that PSA has scans available on their website? ![]()

Bet they used different plates than the american card.
Confirmed glossy by psa? Then it totally must be glossy, psa would never label something glossy that isn’t!!
Unless you own the card and have it in hand, I would assume that it’s a mislabel. Tons are mislabeled by PSA, unfortunately.
Thanks for the confirmation. I guess finding these Glossy Keiji Kinebuchi cards might be harder than it first appeared. I’m glad I already have a copy..
(Although I am still looking for the variant with shifted artwork, which seems to be even harder to find unfortunately.
)

So this most likely means that either the first CoroCoro print run was not all the same, or the lottery reprints were not all the same
I would lean towards the first option being more plausible, but at this point I have no idea how either would be proven given the scarcity of unpeeled copies
I’d have to see more pics of that glossy pikachu to believe it. It could be real, sure, but it’s also weird that the photo crops out the border for no good reason. Could be real, could also be behind laminated surface of some kind etc. Many possibilites. But this would be the first ever to surface so naturally I’m a little skeptical but I’d be pleasantly surprised if it was real.
@Quuador do you own all the versions?
There are other pictures on twitter. Not mine so maybe the owner will elaborate @Meech
No, I’m still missing the one with shifted artwork.

Hi all,
Sorry to join the thread so late, but I’ve been following for about 2 years now. I meant to do this so long ago, but life stuff lol.
I bought this card in 2019 off of eBay as part of a lot, and never discovered how special it might be until I posted on Reddit 2+ years ago. Someone linked this thread & I’ve been checking periodically ever since.
Just wanted to share mine! I believe CGC got it right, but with the new versions that have been popping up, I’m not sure exactly what to make of it.
here’s a glossy kinebuchi ivy pikachu that i got today in a lot of cards in jpnan. it’s in really bad condition and the back is a little bit inked ![]()
it has a centered retreat cost and offset fighting energy symbol
it also has some weird print ghosting on some of the black text
honestly i have no idea what to make of it lol
