So who the heck is grading dozens of commons from brand new sets… See forbidden light for example. Seems like a huge waste of PSA resources lol.

The rarity of the card being graded is irrelevant though isn’t it?
There is no difference in workload between grading 1000 common cards vs 1000 secret rares.
Random as hell to grade all the cards from that set, though.

Everyone can spend money as they wish but seems like such a strange choice, there is older sets with less commons graded so wonder where they see the potential in this!
Why does it always have to be monetary value? Might just be that they really like the set/art and want to have it slabbed, doesn´t seem strange to me at all.

Couldn’t agree more with this! PSA-grading should be about protecting the cards you like. With all these prices these days it’s primarily focused on hoping for 10s to flip for more money.
I don’t see any harm in trying to get a full set in PSA-10 now that the cards are fresh out of the packs. Ten years from now all these same cards might be in played quality in some collector’s box and getting the full set of PSA-10 might be hard to complete. Now it’s fairly easy straight out of the packs (still not that easy, considering the lack of quality - mostly OC and holo bleeds - in the recent English releases, though).
Money-wise it might not be the best decision to grade newly released commons. But who cares about money. We are collectors!

I mean, to play devil’s advocate to a lot of the comments here, no one is grading 21 Forbidden Light Snover because they like the set.

Probably use them as training material for new employees and then just hand them out at events

Well the mystery has been solved, but If you are afraid of this just keep a box or two sealed and you will have 4+ mint copies of each common to grade down the road instead of dropping $100s grading cards that have little to no value right now.
Ignoring the fact that it’s PSA doing this, if collectors keep getting sucked into this grading craze I see happening right now that we start grading every card that comes out, graded cards start becoming less special in my eyes. I’ve already seen it happening with people like cardrushinc that saturate the market with 100s of copies of PSA 10s the same card making me never want to own a graded copy of it.
