Is this Pokemon Center New York Gameboy real?

I recently purchased this Pokemon Center New York Gameboy Advance and am working on verifying authenticity

What I know below:

  • seller stated they purchased from someone in Japan
  • The box is damaged but in decent condition w/ manual
  • The gameboy is suspiciously clean relative to the condition of the box
  • The inside battery compartment is black (usually a good sign)
  • The fonts are crispy and look good relative to real ones I’ve seen online

In doing some research it’s very hard to tell if this is fake. My suspensions stemming from how clean the system is. Nothing else looks fake.

Appreciate any comments or even the hard honest truth!

Happy to post more pictures if helpful. Trying to avoid taking it apart if possible.

I ran into that same question myself but as you mentioned the Japanese ones didn’t have the barcode and this ones lining up with a Japanese seller. Appreciate the perspective

i don’t think it’s unreasonable to have a rough box and a clean system inside!! the box was doing it’s job of taking any damage before it reached the gba. especially in transit from japan.

do you have any pictures of the manual? i believe it should be date stamped with another sticker of a matching serial number. here’s an example:

No date stamp but the serial number matches the one on the Gameboy :thinking:

The battery compartment (and even the cartridge slot) are pretty immaculate. I don’t see wear on either one

Thank you for digging around with me. I’m growing more optimistic. It’s a great piece of history and I’m really just curious given the number of re-shell

I wanted it for exactly that, the history and nostalgia. I grew up playing GBA and living in NYC with a poke store that closed after 4 years.. it only felt right to try. Will come back here if I get confirmation!
