Everyone tries to avoid paying taxes, but ironically the best way to pay the least amount in taxes is to register as a real, above-board business.
Benefits:
- Register for sales tax exemption certificate (no tax paid on purchases)
- Unlock cash basis, spend to zero accounting (only pay tax on year-end profits which you can manage)
- Easily account for your income for loan qualifications
- You get to introduce yourself as a business owner
Learned how to reduce more taxes with one fourthstar message than my entire finance class ![]()
This happened to me in the fall. Made a massive gain on some parts of my collection (sealed PC ETBS) and it 100% increased my appetite. I was able to buy high end vintage cards (shinings, crystals, etc) that I would never have been able to justify before. For me, it felt more like I traded my sealed that my basis was so low in for items that have not been that cheap since I was more serious about collecting.
I think the answer is yes, looking at my massive wishlist. Well, perhaps Iād want the same cards, Iād just get them faster.
The answer for me is yes. it would reach levels of greed that even the bible speaks of
I would be able to buy some of the cards I was after much quicker, but with a lot of current prices being exorbitant, I still would hesitate to part with my money.
Collecting in general, no. But for cards that are already somewhat or completely out of reach, absolutely. If my budget doubled then I would be much closer to accessing cards I already want to collect with a lower barrier to entry and less intentional longterm planning required.
Could you define appetite?
I think I have some thoughts but Iām not fully sure I understand the question.
I think there are multiple ways to answer the question!
- Would you spend twice as much?
- Would you complete your current goals quicker?
- Would you add new goals?
Part of lifestyle inflation is setting your eyes on increasingly expensive experiences or things, which keeps people in the same relative economic situation as when they made less money. For Pokemon cards, I think this translates to wanting higher grades, higher-end cards, more sealed product, or multiples of cherished cards.
Tbh I donāt think I would spend more, Iām already crazy into PokĆ©mon where it wouldnāt be healthy to go more
I donāt think it would today.
It certainly did up to a certain point in life.
At one point I desired the best I could afford. Leather in my truck and a PSA 10.
Cloth seats and a PSA9 eventually became appealing.
Iām liking raw cards and a single cab these days.
2 x 0 is still 0 sadly
Broke at a higher level?
