Your description seems very realistic and fair (y) However I never said I would or actually have that expectation, if I would apply and actually get hired. Knowing that you might never grade something like your shadowless zard example is common sense considering how scarce it is compared to what’s get sent in To me it seems like a fun job in itself, even if I would have to grade Wurmples and unknown left fielders from teams I have never Heard of Before day in and day out That’s why I would ask the question. So I say it again, thanks for the constructive answer but please don’t assume that I live in cloud 9 and don’t know that you usually can’t go from zero-hero in a day at a new job ^^
I showed the vice president and some other staff your responses.
^^
I believe they understand alot of these problems already. I’m not here to represent them or whatever, nor working for them.
I was just a mediator, they wanted my advice on some the Japanese tcg market within Japan.
I told them labelling is a big issue, things like 4th print run should be notable given new labels.
Also damaging cards during grading, and grading fake yugioh cards is not good, but a rare occurrence they are working on, and took this extremely seriously.
Things like smudges or prints where there is discolouration from the printer maybe don’t deserve pop 1s or individual labels. but there is so much room for discussion on this.
They know about Europe, and want to come and have alot of offers from Frankfurt and Germany.
And the FIFO service level is important, they have a new office now with more staff which opened today in the USA.
So hopefully things will be catalogued more faster and efficiently soon.
Also they are updating their 90s YouTube video, they want to update and have tried to remove the old one haha… They are very strict on grading and quite professional about things.
Anyways, I don’t know. They didn’t tell me much, just a very casual meeting. But I think they have their heart in the right place, and try to do things quite efficiently and effectively as possible. There is definitely things they need to iron out, their aware of, if you have a loud voice, and display these queries more-so to the office, it is a good idea perhaps?
but they are definitely paying more respect to pokemon more-so recently.
I was pretty brutal and upfront with what is wrong with them at the moment, and not afraid to show them your comments. Even Jeremy’s ‘get good’ remark got a laugh haha.
In this world of everybody quitting their job, dropping out of high school to become a YouTube star, many people living on Cloud 9, riding on unicorns and thinking their doing what they love at their dream job will happen before even drinking coffee. I love your realistic view and if PSA is the thing you want to go for, I am cheering for you!
I better hope not! Germans and English not always match and Frankfurt became the first German city where native Germans became a minority due to Merkels failing immigration and housing policy. An European PSA office should be in Amsterdam (or Rotterdam, since yes Rotterdam is 1000x better than Amsterdam) just because of the far more interesting tax rules for them.
A very good point aswell, so I understand the assumption! xD Thanks again and if I ever make it to the grading desk, I will let you know and send you a personally graded left fielder B)
As far as living in California: with all due respect to our Cali members, the place sucks. Taxes and crime are out of control. Rents and mortgages are out of sight. Businesses are disappearing every day. Freedom has been lost there as the politicians control the people’s lives and the citizens follow like sheep.
It wasn’t always like that. I was born there and lived total about 30 years there.
Okay, back to Pokemon;)
No fifo. BGS started that and you never get quick grades. Always on last guaranteed day. PSA considered it in 1998 but would have had to regulate the same way as BGS to make it work.
Nearly 60,000 people a year submit orders and the only ones who complain are a few Pokemon submitters. This should tell you something. Say “NO” to first in first out,
Why would it be a bad thing to have the first orders in being the first serviced? I have had loads of my bulk orders surpass my other bulk orders as well as the orders of likely thousands of other people and I still don’t like it.
Why is randomly getting quick grades a good thing if you also occasionally get late grades? Unless of course PSA cherry picks and ensures that certain people don’t in fact get late grades? I know they don’t cherry pick mine because I have literally had a bulk order submitted that runs late while another bulk order submitted after it gets graded in under two weeks. It makes no sense and can’t be an efficient way to operate.
This is false, go check out some sports card forums. They complain about it too. I’m pretty active on blowoutcards forum and know several people who complain about inconsistency of turn around times and how orders are processed.
Obviously nothing is 100% but I would hardly consider BOC a source for anything lol.
Most of the sophisticated sports graders, a community I’ve been a part of since 1994/95, feel exactly as I do. Leave the system as it’s been for two and a half decades. Obviously, PSA has listened for that 25 years and left it the same. Best to ask yourself why this is the case than to criticize what the vast majority consider a very good policy cause maybe if you examine the other side of the argument you will experience an amazing awakening;)
Simple. Because then my turnaround times would suffer and that’s what it’s all about. Time is money. I’ve explained many times here. Here’s only one reason, though there’s many. I send in multiple orders of a hundred cards each. Now they get sprinkled or put in multiple queue’s. So three 45day orders may be done in 10 days and 25 days and 45 days. FIFO could push all of them to the end and it could take 2 months before I even get one card back.
If you post a print out of your last 12 orders (include the expected turnaround times) I’m sure I could point out how you’ve benefitted by the current system.
Again @garyis2000 I am fully aware how I benefit at times in getting some bulk orders back in less than a week. It is just frustrating as hell when you submit bulk orders in the same box as a 5 day turnaround and not only does the bulk order beat out the faster turnaround time, but the faster turnaround time then goes late! That is inexcusable IMO. Indefensible. Maybe not a true FIFO is needed (but I think it is) but surely their order fulfillment priority needs major revamping. I know I posted about it when it happened, but I don’t have the file on me handy. I don’t think anyone can truly fully defend their system as it stands.
On the same note I have also had a couple bulk orders go late. I mean 45 days is an insane amount of time. I know it is “estimated” and all but still how do they not get one graded in time? Especially when they are getting other bulk orders out that are received afterwards in well under 45 days time. Again I have posted these instances in the past with proof, but don’t have access at the moment. If not a transition to FIFO then please transition to some common sense hybrid system where no orders go late when it clearly isn’t just a low manpower/high submission rate issue.
Best for you to wake up and ask yourself why I didn’t read my post clearly. You said it’s only Pokemon collectors who complain about turn around times, I said sports collectors do as well. I wasn’t saying either way is right or wrong. I just don’t want it to seem Pokemon collectors are the only one who complain.
Again, it’s not 100% of sports graders (probably 99%) but it is 100% of sports graders with any experience with the process. Newbies, as well as maybe 10% of Pokemon graders can’t see beyond that one order that went overtime.
That’s just the way it is and I’m simply pointing it out so those few who don’t quite get it will hopefully learn.
Not really. The fuss just a few Pokemon graders put up isn’t found in the more mature experienced grading circles.
Let me say this, nobody in the world is more experienced than I am in dealing with PSA in both sports and Pokemon. I have done more and I have seen more. I have been privy to inside discussions on the matter.
Now considering that, why am I opposed to changing the system? Wouldn’t you think I’ve reasoned this all out? The ONLY times I’ve ever been questioned about this is here on efour and that’s a little surprising.
