I’ve lost count of the prototypes

Guys we are talking about jpegs and you know that, not your 3d modeling files.

Yeah, and as someone who has tried to pull personal image data forward through multiple computers and several hardware formats, image files are very easy to corrupt and become unrecoverable. Floppy isnt easy to pull from anymore, zipdisk is the same, many early data CDs are reaching end of life if they werent quality or stored correctly, heck even older usb or sd card (back when max sizes were in mb) may require reformatting the drive because of proprietary programs that are no longer in use or are abandoned and cant run on current OS.

yea, all of this is to say that I’m not worried about the original files being reprinted so much as I would be worried about a bad actor buying a few of these and photocopying them. That seems like a much more likely outcome

What I’m hearing is that I need to start printing out photos again

Although I love Sample/prototype cards in general, since they’re so unique and give an insight in the history of the TCG or certain sets and were in almost all cases supposed to be destroyed, the pump and dump aspect of the current market leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It’s fairly similar as with the Protostoise article a few years back… Travis King (MTG expert) made a video series; I created an Efour article about that, since as I mentioned, I love Sample cards and their history; then that same week CGC released an article as well. CGC mostly did because they were auctioning two of them soon after, and I also remember the guy here on Efour who kept talking about money and -although very slightly- barely cared about the history of the card itself. Although tbf, I can’t blame him too much for that, considering the cards ended up being sold for 200-300k USD or so (I can’t remember the exact amount and am too lazy to look it up rn).

The big difference between those and these new 1995 prototype cards, is that for the Protostoise they actually did their best to compile as much information as possible to authenticate it. Whereas with these 1995 cards, it’s basically all boils down to: ‘These came directly from Takumi Akabane, former R&D director of Creatures Inc., so these must be real.’, which is kinda lame tbch. I have no doubt in my mind that banet_1965 is Takumi Akabane’s IG EDIT: banet1965 was Takumi Akabane’s IG, which he deleted (probably due to privacy or harassment reasons); banet_1965 is a fake copy-cat), but a bit more info about the cards themselves and their manufacturing, purpose, timeframe, etc. would have been nice, to say the least… :unamused:

Seems like that account you were 100% right it was him, was impersonating him and is confirmed.

Just wanted to add my 2 cent to the “recover old file” thing, since I’m reading it now.

I think with right incentive (thousands of dollars are more than enough) this is very very doable.

I actually sold recently a couple of old pc from 1980 for my dad: they were perfectly fine, reading old floppies and documents stored without any problems.

The majority of prehistoric photoshop versions or old 3d graphic software used by the industry are available and kept alive by small groups of hobbyists,
Plenty of youtubers make video as “here the old commercial I’ve done back in 1993!”, that I actually enjoy watching and reach thousands of views.

Sure, you have to be a bit skilled and crazy, but I wouldn’t underestimate the reliability of these machines, the abundance of inventory left and the skills of many boomers that actually worked with old pc.

These ppl are all pushing 60/70 yrs old. Can’t take that ¥ with you.

Oh fr? Where did you hear about that?

Hmm, that doesn’t seem good for the credibility of these cards in that case… Especially the black and white ones. :pikathink:

IG account "banet_1965" is NOT Takumi Akabane

Thanks! I am a few days behind on reading new posts, so hadn’t seen this thread yet.

So the deleted banet1965 was Takumi Akabane’s IG (do we have any proof or counterproof for that; I wouldn’t want to make another incorrect claim…). And with the additional underscore is a copycat/fake account, if I understood correctly? I’ve edited my post above to reflect that (and removed the IG link).
