I sold an item. It was paid for. The order was canceled.

I sold an item. It was paid for. I was going to ship this morning until eBay messaged me saying the buyer had fraudulent activity and the account had been stolen and purchased this item with the stolen card.

However, the money is in my PayPal and it’s not mine. What do I do? Obviously I’d like to keep the money but it’s also not mine.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Wait and see if Ebay / Paypal claims it back. Otherwise, if they don’t ask for it back, might as well keep it if no one is asking for it. I suppose you could refund on paypal.

if you have reserves about it not being yours, you can always donate it.

So you plan on keeping money on an item you still have possession on? I’m sure you will be asked to refund the money later.

If it was legitimately a stolen credit card, the credit card company might write off the charges. Also refunds might just bounce back since the card if longer active.

Could always ring PayPal and ask what the go is.

That said, I wouldn’t touch the money, nor refund it until you get told to do so / it automatically happens.

Assume it will be asked for back eventually, but if its not then buy Pokemon cards :stuck_out_tongue:

The buyer was a thief…don’t you be.
Don’t touch the money. They’ll take it back.

Well said. If you still have the item it’s unfair to think to keep the money.

I agree. It’s not my money and would be unethical. However, I have a feeling nothing will be done about this. If nothing does happen, I’ll donate it.

Good thinking. I’d donate it to E4 who is always in need of support to help keep us going:)

Not a bad idea. I’ll do that.

I called eBay and they said they’re handling it and to just sit back and wait. Might or might not be a chargeback.
