How would you describe "Unlimited" in Japanese?

Hi folks. Been high on the hunt for the last few cards of my collection which has led me in communications with a few Japanese sellers keeping eyes out for me.

One thing that’s been difficult, however, is describing successfully what I mean when I say “Unlimited” cards versus 1st Edition. I’ve used google translate to no avail and have even tried visual explanations but to little avail. The sellers are incredibly patient and keep trying to reach an understanding of what I mean, but after some extended attempts, we both agree there is a misunderstanding and leave it there.

Has anyone else come across this issue and found success? If so, please share me your secrets.

In my experience I describe first edition as “first print” in Japanese the word “edition” really doesn’t translate well. When i explain what “first print” is i also use a comparison of using words like “normal”,“regular”,“reprint” sometimes even “plebeian”

Also you can always provide pictures to the people keeping a eye out for you since it will tremendously help describing what you are looking for

cant you saw not first edition? XD Or no 1st edition stamp

@geg89, that was reminiscent of my first attempts. Didn’t work. XD

I’ve tried the picture route, but each time they just send another picture of either the same card but it has 1st edition, or they send me an unlimited card of a card I’m not asking about, so it leaves me confused. XD If this was a one time occurrence, I’d be more likely to continue using pictures, but it hasn’t worked each time.

Maybe I need to just do some extra work and create like a mini slideshow for each card that I’m looking for. XD It’s hard because with the Rage of the Broken Heavens, you really can’t find actual Unlimited images of the card and some of the corners are so dark that you can barely tell if there’s a 1st Edition stamp or not depending on the pictures.

Maybe I just need to edit it out and find a reliable translation for “Want” “Don’t Want” with pictures and arrows that say “See this” to where the stamp is/isn’t.

I tried finding unlimited versions to help you but it was really difficult also, so I did some really lazy microsoft paint work, with a gyarados for you of course. This is how I would probably approach it, hope it helps! One of them I put the Japanese translation of “no stamp” to emphasize the missing stamp, the other one doesn’t have the translation as you may think of a better word for it.

My Japanese isn’t the best but you could try something like 初版抜き (without first edition) or 初版無し (no first edition). I’d probably use 初版無し, I think that’s more natural

Edit for a whole sentence, “1st初版欲しくない。” I don’t want the first edition

Just sprinkle in a すみません here and there and it’ll be alright
