How do you sort your PSA collection?

My PSA collection is growing and I’m debating on how to sort my cards. How do you all sort your collection? By year? Alphabetical? Do you mix English and Japanese, or keep them separate? Would love to hear some ideas!

I keep mine sorted by set with the PSA brown boxes

By set in BCW boxes.

For non-set cards I don’t really keep them sorted in any particular way as I don’t have enough of them for it to matter much. I supposed as my collection grows I’ll likely sort by release year for promos.

By set in BCW boxes.
Different languages in different boxes.
Promos separated the same way.

Usually a radix sort. Especially for large numbered sets.

I just sort them out into sets, numerical order,

On my Groudon collection I sort them by date of release and keep the two artworks if ones in JP and another in EN together!

I sort most of them by Pokemon. Certain Pokemon as a pile or cards or in a box. Then those cards are in order of release date and for card variants they go by which card was released first so usually the Japanese variant comes first.

Then I have a separate pile of cards of various species and that is purely in order of release dates. And some cards I have on display but they are also sorted by release date mostly.

I sort by year, set and then number.

Mine is a little all over the place ATM.

But I try to sort by rarity or theme.

Rare obscure promos together

Pikachu cards together

Gengar cards together

Then wotc sets as wotc sets

That’s it for me.

I sort mine by submission, since I’m not aiming to collect full sets. Each submission is in its own cardboard box that i make out of leftover 1/4in. Thick cardboard in the mailroom at my work haha. Less money spent on boxes = more money spent on cards!

And also, a couple posts mentioned bcw boxes, what are those?

Thanks for your responses everyone! I love how everyone takes a different approach when sorting their collection. It just serves as a reminder that every collection is a unique gem, even down to the way it’s categorized.

These are all great suggestions. I think I’ll separate the Japanese from the English cards (thanks @garyis2000 ), separate the sets from the promos (and in release date order) (thanks @teraz , @woolsluk , @zacheggers ), and maybe even give my Ho-oh and Zapdos collections their own little nook (thanks @cljdavis ,@xzini ,@kkthxbai ).

@mikejofthecoast - you can purchase bwc boxes on ebay. I like them quite a bit. - www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=bcw+boxes&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=bwc+boxes

@pkmnflyingmaster I love the idea of radix sort - something I’ll consider if my collection ever gets big enough.
