I played the TCG competitively for a few years from 2015-2017 and had no care to collect until recently. I started buying random lots and such off of eBay and craigslist, and kept all the cards that I thought were dope
Flipped yugioh for about 2 years as supplemental college income. Started researching pokemon as a way to expand my inventory. As I was pricing out lots eventually cards would catch my eye and as I did more research I saw them as a potential investment as well. Now my flipping of modern cards fuels my collecting purchases and grading fees. It also got me into playing the tcg currently.
School switched to Yu-gi-oh and I followed… But I never stopped playing the games or watching the anime as I’ve been obsessed with Pokemon since I can remember. I just thought Pokemon cards would never be ‘cool’ again at our school so I didn’t mind giving them away at the time.
I can’t remember exactly why I got back into collecting again, but I know it started with me buying Japanese cards with some of my favourite art as you could get them pretty cheap. Then I guess I must have seen that there was a serious collecting side whilst browsing on ebay. And once I got a job and actually had some money I could finally start buying some higher end stuff. I always wish I was born a couple of years earlier though as I was interested in collecting for a while but I only got access to money around the ‘Pokemon GO boom’ period. Could have got way more bang for my buck.
I started in the late 90s with sticker cards, got into the TCG with Base Set and stopped in the mid 00s because of the new circumstances.
I feel nostalgia about my life in Germany since 2004. Moving to a village in Greece separated me from the hobby. I didn’t choose to stop collecting. It was taken from me.
I wanted to get back into it in the late 00s, but didn’t feel comfortable with online purchases because of concerns regarding my location.
- I came across my German Totally Pokemon CD and the song You & Me & Pokemon brought tears to my eyes. I was ready.
