Grading Childhood Cards

I graded my original big 3, super happy I did. They display very well together.

It’s a tough choice. IMO I feel like childhood cards are a matter of nostalgia in form. Holding them. Enjoying the sparkle. It’s not the same in a slab. Further, will they be 10s? 9s?
Why grade them? To protect them? Authentication?
It’s easier to transport them in a binder if I ever move, and they just as vulnerable to theft or disaster. Binder and access is what I say.

Kind of what I was thinking. The only reason I really considered grading them to get them consistent with my collection, since it’s entirely PSA graded cards.

Appreciate the responses everyone! I think at this point I’ll probably just leave them raw like the good ol’ days :slightly_smiling_face:

I tend not to bother. Firstly it costs money to grade without appreciably increasing my enjoyment of them. And they’re so battered already that there’s not much point trying to over-protect them :joy:

Also the smell of old Pokemon cards is just :pinched_fingers:

What a great question. I went through the same thing and still don’t have a good answer.

I don’t know how many times I drove to the post office with my childhood collection then turned around and went home but I did eventually grade them just to encapusalte.

Now that they are home again I’m happy I did but just reading your post is giving me anxiety remembering how stressed I was about them getting lost in the mail and never seeing them again

ah man you’re killing me. I also don’t collect Yu-Gi-Oh but just seeing these is giving me chills. Such good times playing with friends. I’m still holding on to hope I find mine. Super jelly but happy for you

Haha yeah, same. I’ve had these three cards in PSA submissions three or four different times and ended up taking them out.

I put a few of my childhood cards in ARS slabs for preservation. It is also my preferred slab for display.
