Guy who got the gengar was down 9k before his ā€œwinā€. Says he’s ā€œmadeā€ 28k from the buyback.

Great gamble for 19k profit but that sounds crazy to me when this is one of the hits.

I’m sure it need not be said around here, but don’t believe a single thing you see about these Power Packs. I’m losing count of the reddit posts I’m seeing where somebody posts a card they obtained, and briefly mention the value with no other context. It inevitably goes like this:

ā€œGreat card! How much did you pay, OP?ā€

ā€œOh, I got it for a steal! I won it off the Gamestop Power Pack $X,XXX tier!ā€

ā€œHow many pulls did it take?ā€

ā€œOnly one, can you believe it!ā€

And then the OP post/comment history will be nothing but crypto meme coin rubbish along with the singular post about their alleged ā€œpullā€ posted onto every TCG adjacent sub, with no other PokĆ©mon related content in sight.

Just really gross, underhanded marketing tactics that most people aren’t going to do enough due diligence on to realize they’re being suckered into a gambling ecosystem.

The prevalence of astroturfing is so apparent with posts like those. Had a slower day at work yesterday so took the time to go through some livestream vods of people’s power pack pulls. In just about every case people came out losing at least half of the money they put in. The ability to instantly sell cards to fund additional pulls promotes degenerate behavior and unfortunately a lot of people are going to accumulate large debt with nothing to show.

Also makes me wonder if the 33k Gengar sale was an inside job to legitimize the packs and create hype. It surprised me how quickly the press release followed. We’ll never really know.

We also have to consider that a significant share of these cryptobros are also retail investors who hold large amounts of Gamestop stock because of the memes. A lot of these positive posts about Power Packs are likely thinly-veiled attempts to boost Gamestop stock.

Search ā€œr/GME power packsā€ and the results should tell you all you need to know about this lol
