@garyis2000 I had an early flight yesterday and opted to watch this rather than a movie. My main reason was that I wanted to drift asleep and didn’t want a movie to keep me awake. That said, a lot of other people on the flight were watching it in earnest. I think a major reason why it’s appealing is because a prince of one of the most notorious royal families ever is marrying a Canadian/American actress who was previously married already. It caused a lot of drama to their family earlier on because she’s sorta like “used goods” and it’s breaking traditions - see Edward VIII and later Prince Charles- marrying a divorcee was a BIG no no for a long time. Harry’s older brother married the Duchess of Cambridge and will likely be King after his father Charles (assuming Charles lives long enough for Elizabeth to die- personally I think she’s a lizard person and will outlive us all). Harry on the other hand, doesn’t give a fig. The wedding was completely nontraditional. They ditched the balcony at Buckingham Palace (didn’t even get married in London), they picked a damned lemon cake for their official wedding cake, bridesmaids and pageboys weren’t just from royalty, the bride wasn’t given away by her father, tons of celebs on the guest list, and the ceremony was chalk full of multicultural content with friggin gospel music, civil rights references by martin luther king jr, and the wedding itself was addressed by an AMERICAN Episcopal church bishop.
I actually went to school with her mom Doria Ragland in my senior year lol (Fairfax High School in Hollywood 1971). She was with me in the Student Democratic Society which I chaired. She was really funny and had a HUUUGE afro haircut. I was a little older but she had a crush on me. Just imagine if we had hooked up? After all, I did eventually marry my high school sweetheart and Doria did marry a white guy who is Meghan father. Funny how life goes.
The 2 pics are from our yearbook. She’s in the center of the bottom row.
Somehow Gary is starting to become present in my everyday conversations with friends.
Collecting cards: “Well actually, I know this guy who has this awesome charizard collection that is way better than what you are seeing here”
TV Shows: “Oh you watch Pawn Stars? Actually the same guy with the awesome charizard collection was on that TV show and I think he’s his neighbor or something”
I definitely feel you there. Pokémon in general is just becoming a big part of my everyday conversation. I brought up some of @smpratte ‘s videos in my economics class and everyone just looked at me like I was crazy it was totally worth it though since I learn more about economics in his videos then I do in my actual course
