FCBM

So just curious what are peoples thoughts on fcbm?
Is this something that is going to get bigger in time?

What do you do with the ones you get?

Whats FCBM?

I don’t find it very interesting myself. Probably not much legs.
Of course I’m the one who said cell phones were stupid and would never catch on lol.

Free cards by mail I assume.

You send a Charizard, get back a caterpie.

I’ve never received a FCBM. I know very few people who have. Those individuals being primetimepokemon and theunlistedleaf. Essentially kids will send their most valuable possessions to these youtubers in hopes that they are mentioned and people will follow their channels. Unfortunately, not many people (myself included) will follow these FCBM people. I’m always astounded what is sent but also at the same time I’m concerned for those individuals who send really good cards just on a whim that they’ll make it big.

I have a less negative view of it.

Most of the people sending are of course kids who want to get featured, but I’ve also sent free cards to some of my favorite youtubers as a “thank you” for making content that I really enjoy. I’ve also received them from people who wanted to do the same.

Never participated in it but I have actually received free cameras by mail, couple years back a guy gave me a Canon 7D Mark II

Also got a Mamiya RB67+Polaroid Back on the condition that I document my city, he was a photographer who used to live here couple decades back sent it to me. He wasn’t using it and wanted to see how it looked like now.

I try and do the same, given away tons of cameras in hopes to get more people into the craft.

I dont know how I got so lucky, but at the time I was a college student struggling to buy anything, so it meant the world to me.

Holy shit! What was the situation?

I dress in minimal clothing and walk certain parts of the CBD, and people just send me free money. I imagine this is much the same.

I get offers somewhat frequently on Instagram from people wanting to send me free cards (and also tend to get the same amount of people asking for free cards from me haha). I usually just decline them all because I don’t like to get free stuff/I’m not really used to it. I am always shocked at how generous people are when they send cards to people on YouTube, and I would definitely feel undeserving if I was sent anything. I just tell them that they should keep the cards themselves and enjoy them. The cards they would send would likely be something I don’t need and if they actually did have something I was looking for, I would happily buy or trade for it.

Some of the guys over there that I’ve bought from before keep my addy and will occasionally send me a gift of some kind and it still doesn’t feel right, so I always return the favor. I figured I could open myself up to receive any free cards from anyone and offer to send something in return but it wasn’t worth the hassle of spending extra time + shipping money sending out random cards.

So yeah, I generally don’t like getting FCBM’s but people are free to do as they wish. I don’t see an issue with it, other than that the people that receive the cards don’t always sound as grateful as I would think they should.

What a lucky break for you.

I need a new camera and a laptop. I just entered my senior year in college.

Do you know anyone who is giving out cameras or laptops? Because that kind of bread and butter is needed asap.
I wish i was a camera expert to know which models you just describe. But still congrats on getting the lucky break.

We have a thread over on a canon forum where we give away stuff we’re not using. For years I had given away stuff but never saw anything that I truly needed, one day a 7DM2 popped up from a wealthy guy and of course everyone jumped on it. I never thought I would get it, but i had talked to the guy on several occasions before and by complete miracle he chose me.

at the time I was using a cheap $200 camera, so from that to a 7DM2 was insane.
