Favorite EX-Era Set

Agreed. Its probably my second favorite!

I always thought the identity it has was one of the coolest parts. Having the all the exs and a few of the holos be mons based off the Hoenn Pokemon League. Along with stadium cards going with them to boot. It always seemed like a pseudo gym like set just lacking the names in front of pokemon.

I really think its the rarity mostly that keeps it low tier

Yeah I see the critiques for sure. It was printed like crazy.

I’m in the 1% that chose Power Keepers, solely based off of this Ninetales. One of the most badass Pokemon artworks I’ve seen.

I agree! And that’s why I’m giving EX Team Rocket Returns my vote for the inclusion of shiny Gen 3 Starters :smiling_imp:

The set composition of emerald is nice with heavy gen 3 pokemon focus. A lot of cgi art is a bit of a downside but still rarity makes up for somw of that imo

Most surprising thing now is that the only set with zero votes is
EX Deoxys. I would’ve thought the gold stars would’ve pushed at least one or two people to vote for it.

Also weird to see Hidden Legends beating Holon Phantoms and Unseen Forces.

I was hoping that we could reach ~100-200 votes to solidify some of these proportions

If Dragon didn’t exist I might have saved it from this embarrassment. Regular holo section is glorious:

Didn’t even include the jirachi? smh

Too many good ones!

Hmm, I think the holo choices for Deoxys were
OK. Definitely not fan favorites for the most part (e.g., Breloom, Camerupt, Ludicolo, Slaking).

The common/uncommon/non-holo rare art on the other hand
9/10. There are some incredible pieces of work that go unappreciated.

I feel the same way about Deoxys as I do Legend Maker and Emerald. They all have some of my absolute favorite arts ever in them, but a lot of mediocre filler stuff that I don’t really care for.

On the other hand you have sets like Sandstorm and Ruby Sapphire, with fewer of my top tier favorites maybe but a far greater average across the sets.

That’s why I’m able to put Dragon as my number 1, because it has a combination of both.

I’m still torn up by the secret rare Farfetch’d in Emerald. He deserved a gold star designation. Just look at that pose! :sob:

The EX-era was the last bastion of layout vibrancy, the last time cards felt right and looked right in every way:

Take this example, compare the first row with the second row. I love all these illustrations but take a moment to consider the difference here and let me know if you agree, I took some examples from Legend Maker because I think the set is particularly rich in vibrant, explosive colors:

thats actually one of my favorite wailords, but LM has become one of my all time favorite ex sets recently from set cohesion alone

It’s a great Wailord.

My opinion on LM hasn’t changed much over the years. The portion of cards I do like from it are spectacular, just a lot of top top cards. Straight cosmos reverses are just opulent, and you all know how I feel about the Regis.

The best feature of later ex sets with stamped commons is the fact that every card has attention. Sets like Skyridge have some beautiful commons but since the best they will ever get is reverse holo, many people dont collect them. I dont even have common sets of any eseries set, just the holos. Even though I love the non holos
