Yep, fake/bootlegs 100%
These are also fake, Topps never printed gen2 in this style, the text on the back is taken from gen1 Pokemon, they wouldn’t have used the Japanese names.
But these are also a different bootleg from the one referenced earlier in this thread which has square corners and different holographic patterns
This is wild to me…a card company doesn’t keep info on product after a single year? Wild.
Did you end up picking these up
Most of them are non-holo, holo are rare. All the holo are the same, there’s only 1 pattern. The 2nd photo is the back of a holo. It’s hard to see, but you can see it’s card, not plastic. If you find some are all holo and different pattern or sticker, plastic back, then they are fake.
That’s indeed interesting to read but sounds like very difficult to verify, as there’s close to zero official information of even some officially released topps cards i’m guessing it’s most likely impossible to find any documentation of them. I sorta can buy the idea of prototypes and the reasons behind round edges tho, how did you get the cards in your possession and is there any more information or even rumours you can share of them? Nevertheless thanks for the photos, very interesting to hear about the possibility of topps prototypes
I got the cards like 20 years ago from a family friend that worked for Topps. I just google ‘topps pokemon round corner’ and found the same type of cards. Maybe we can find more information from the owner and seller. The 1st photo is from the reddit post, the 2nd is the holo card I have.

Are you still in touch with the family friend, could it be a source with more information? It’s really tough to say a lot about them when i don’t have them in hand but i do agree that the holo pattern doesn’t look as cheap as with most of the bootlegs
