[ENG] SV09 Journey Together (MAR 28) / [JP] SV9 Battle Partners

i think it feels like a picture of a figure or doll or something. it looks so lifeless in this illustration. might be those johto eyes working against it

This set so far is not what I expected it to be. With the announcement of Owner Pokemon back I was excited for a whole set of them, especially with 4 trainers as the focus there is a lot of potential. However, I’ve been pretty let down so far. Solid artwork as always from the reveals, but this set feels more like a normal set with a handful of Owner’s Pokemon sprinkled in, as opposed to the Gym/TMTA style set I was hoping for.

It feels very much like itll be the sv eras champions path to me. Im hoping for the best but since i didnt play much of SV as videogames, i dont really care about the trainers specific pokemon.

The scarlet violet eras equivalent to champions path. Very hyped up but ultimately a let down of a set with maybe a couple of catchy cards but minimal cards people really want. I hope it isnt but its how this sets announcement has felt to me

hmm i suppose i understand what you’re trying to say. i just don’t think they’re remotely comparable. this set is huge for players + multiple Iono, N, and Lillie cameo cards which will undoubtedly be desired.

Dont forget Hop!
Hope it’ll be just what you said though!

What’s everyone seeing in that Tyranitar?

Might be my least liked AKIRA EGAWA to date.

Proportions look weird, angle/perspective isn’t great.

I wish I could give you a nuanced perspective on why I like the art, but I personally like how it is depicted and it really looks like a force of nature on a rampage. Same like the Pokemon Movie. It is fair to say that it may not be the artist’s best work in comparison to their other works, but I am just like the card as a standalone.

Cheers!

The “my toddler brother is smashing my Lego”-pose is a little cringey but the illustration is well done and I love the serpentine face. He looks like a giant monitor lizard.

SV9 Battle Partners

SV9 028/100 N’s Joltik (illus. Iori Suzuki)

  • Joltik was in N’s 4th battle team at Chargestone Cave (Black & White)
  • It neither evolved nor was used in subsequent battles
  • N’s Joltik taking up the final Lightning-type spot eliminates the possibility of Iono’s Electric-Tera Mismagius that she used in Scarlet & Violet

We’ve had many returns of older gen themes and mechanics in new sets over the past couple years but never the return of older gen sets, it will always be a new generation adaptation. I’ve come to accept that we are at least getting them back in some way or another with beautiful art to match

Lost Zone Lv.X → Lost Zone V/VSTAR
Gold Stars → Radiant Pokémon
ex → BW EX → SV ex
Delta Species → different type Tera (loosely)
Crystal → Stellar (loosely)
Base/Jungle/Fossil → 151
Owner’s Pokémon (Gym Heroes/Challenge) → Owner’s Pokémon x Dream League
Rocket’s Pokémon (TRR) → ???

Fair enough. I set my expectations pretty high lol

SV09 Journey Together

Hop’s Zacian ex Box

  • SVP Hop’s Zacian ex is an alternative artwork
    • Potentially will be in the 2025 High Class set
  • Hop’s Wooloo and Hop’s Dubwool (136/159) should be straight reprints

Thats reasonable tbh. I didnt expect to be like all older gens but it wouldve been nice to see a little more representation of older gens. Like couldve made the wailord Wallace’s. It was right there :pensive: it is a bit disappointing that we only get Lillie, Hop, and Iono. I get that Iono and Lillie are extremely popular (as icky as that feels), but Hop is literally a nothing character for me. Ill take N for sure though.

Kinda reminds me of this guy

The leg situation on this card always bothered me like why is he stanced up like that. Looks like hes about to drop into a split

I guess since these later gen trainers didn’t really get owner’s pokemon sets they are doing them as opposed to older classics, in this set at least. Rocket is coming up and they teased Trainers like Misty in the original worlds trailer so we shall see what happens there.

The featured trainers will most likely get an SR right? I’m hoping the next set with Misty gives us an alternative to the winky-heart card sm11 104

Not at least for this set, Owner’s Pokémon seemed to have removed archetypes from the Supporter slots which is why we now have 6 potential SAR Pokémon ex instead of 4 SAR Pokémon ex / 2 SAR Supporters. TPC is probably treating Owner’s Pokémon as both Pokémon and Supporter this way. These will have SRs:

If Misty is going to be one of the four archetypes for Heat Wave Arena, she will have a bunch of Owner’s Pokémon cards including AR & SAR while trading off her own SR/SAR Supporter

Ah I see, thanks for the info.
Too bad! I was hoping she would get another full art before SV is over for my Kanto gym leader page. I find the the sm11 one a bit off, looking at the eyes for more than a few seconds gives me a headache
