Appreciate the interview and art book link! I think you’re right about it being a traditional art piece, the symmetry is beautiful but not mirrored.
I am so Happy Yashiro Nanaco did the Umbreon. Her Deino was bland to me because she toned down her style, and with Umbreon she went full throttle.
It is a psychedelic fever dream with cooler neon tones against the yellow moon/bottom accents and just incredible.
I also like the more accurate way in which she made Umbreon, unlike the extra cartoony styles from VMAX alt and VMAX CSR/TG which looked too off for me to want to collect (and Umbreon is my favortie eeveelution)
Looking at the low res pics I thought Tomokazu Komiya or Tetsu Kayama drew the Umbreon. I am not a fan of either’s drawing style so feel like I dodged a bullet there, not an attack just not my cup of tea.
The Eevee and Glaceon whether in low or hi res are easily the weakest cards out of the eeveelution Tera SARs for me.
Glaceon looks odd and while the texture will make the the snowflake pattern look stunning the weird neck just kills it.
Eevee is chilling just floating in flower purgatory. A glorified full art IMO.
Sylveon is the clear winner from these four.
Looks like it’s using Magical Charm and hypnotizing the opponent. Reminds me of a Pokemon Stadium attack effect.
The flow of the background ribbons being disrupted by Sylveon’s own ribbons is a great touch.
The tilt of Sylveon’s head and curve of the body contrasting from the rectangular rainbow border, the rectangular inner frame background, and the oval inside it.
How similar colors are used in abundance yet the art is still easy to read.
The super simple flowers falling around and bringing attention to the more delicate and intricate art around it while helping give shape to circular floor Sylveon is standing on.
Using the strong lighting to only show certain areas of Sylveon as crystallized.
Muting the Tera Crown with pastel tones and placement within the art. Along with letting the light source hide the symbols on the crown where it shines brightly on it with only the Ice, Fairy, Electric, Dragon, and Psychic types just barely being visible enough to make out.
A true masterclass in technique and style.
Depending on how Leafeon looks in hi res, it or Sylveon will take the top spot for me art wise, with the other being a close second.
Can’t wait for this set! And here I thought I was getting mad spoiled with Kuroimori’s Milotic and Feebas combo. Pokemon stays draining me lol.
