But he’s cash-ready, a premium buyer, don’t you know what an opportunity this is?

Maybe it’s a cultural thing for those countries outside the USA, but don’t people know there is no such thing as “cash ready pay today”? Either you buy it, or you don’t…

Some people.

Oh man the Pikachu Illustrator ended for 500k, if the buyer doesn’t pay, I have $1000 cold hard cash ready. LOL

You would be surprised how many fake cards get sold. Its obvious to us but not any of those bidders on that card. I often find accounts selling fake cards with positive reviews from people that bought fake cards from them because they just dont know. These people are successfully making out with thousands of dollars from uninformed buyers.

The best is when people do this over something like a $30 card, as if having $30 “ready” is some major achievement and separates you from other potential buyers. I would hope you have $30 “ready” if you are shopping online for collectibles. If not, it’s probably time to get off eBay.

Brings back memories of the “PayPal ready buddy!” days.

TCG Player garbage - someone left feedback all upset that there wasn’t a “do not bend” on the envelope, even though everything arrived perfectly.

What’s funny is I used to write “do not bend” on PWEs, but stopped when a couple of post offices actually sent the item back to me saying I needed to add more postage.

Plus, I’m not even sure writing “do not bend” actually does anything anyway. Most postal workers don’t give a crap. If they have to jam it to get it to fit in the mailbox, they will regardless of what is written on the envelope.

Indeed.
USPS policy actually requires that machine-able mail (PWE, postcards, other envelopes not padded) BE flexible, otherwise, as you found out, there is an upcharge.

If it is properly labelled and paid, non-bendable is supposed to go in a parcel locker or require a hand-off/pickup. Thankfully, my USPS is batting near 1000 on this. :sunglasses:

Lots of buyers don’t know this, but I’ve included it in my standard “Your cards have shipped” message, cuz they worry about nothing. I mean, just snap a photo and request a refund. AmIRight?

Speaking of jamming over-sized envelopes in boxes…

I’m still deciding how to respond to the seller since they are new, clearly, and they lucked out with no damage to the card. Name is Protected for now.

edit: I decided to gently offer some advice on shipping. Great response time from seller. They don’t ship themselves, but accepted the advice, and that’s that. All’s good, but that huge envelope was entertaining at least.

Just got this message today from a buyer on TCGPlayer…

I’m not going to go to war over a $9 MP Legends Awakened Mewtwo Holo, so I’ll probably just grant the return. But like wtf lol

Ask him if he’s using the right size penny or deck sleeves?

Oh man, do I have a good garbage ebay story. I won’t be sharing any screenshots because there are too many back and forths (also this may involve some legitimately crazy people). It will be easier just to share a summed-up version lol.

To start, I’ll establish the context to help make things easier to follow:

Buyer A

Buyer B

Card A

Card B

So, a couple of months ago I get a message from Buyer A with low-ball offer for Card A. I decline, stating that my price is based off the availability and not rushing to get rid of this relatively rare card. They immediately take offense, citing a made-up price as the last sold (still have no idea where they got the number from, wasn’t even close to the actual last sold). I call them out on this with the actual last sold price and they say their offer was good and tell me to “keep trying”.

A couple of weeks later they send me a screenshot of the same card, and say that they found it at a much better price. I tell them congrats and they start to rub it in, as if it’s somehow a bad thing I still have my card. Couple of back and forths of me essentially egging them on and making fun of how vindictive they are over cardboard, and it ends there. Or so I thought. Buckle up because this is where things get RIDICULOUS.

Months later I get a message out of the blue from Buyer B for Card B, saying they are interested in this card. This card is a higher end card. Before I even have time to respond, they send a message on Card A, asking if I would possibly bundle the two cards together. Since Card B is a higher end card, I said I might be willing to offer Card A at a pretty decent discount. That’s when I look at their profile. Only 1 piece of feedback on a profile made not long ago. At that point I’ve already decided I most likely won’t risk doing business with this buyer. Then they try to pull one over on me. This person decided that he will buy Card A for the discounted bundle price, and “maybe” go back in for the high-end Card B the following week. I stop responding at this point.

A few hours later they say they are interested in some of my other cards. I ignore it. Days later they message me again calling me a lousy seller and accusing me of poor communication. Trying to be nice about it, I explain that their profile doesn’t have enough feedback for this kind of deal, and that it is nothing personal. Queue the rage. They spam my inbox saying that I’m an idiot for not even trying to work with them, and sends a screenshot of a list of expensive cards they have bought in the last couple of months. This is when I call them out for clearly trying to scam me into selling Card A for a discounted price.

They send a message insulting me again. Then 5 MINUTES LATER, I get a message from Buyer A. Coincidence? I think not. Buyer A messages me and makes fun of the fact my card is still listed and offers an insulting low price to be a “nice person”. At this point all the pieces came crashing together.

Buyer A made the account of Buyer B after our initial interaction to try and trick me into selling Card A at a low price. Account B was made shortly after my initial interaction with Account A, so this person has literally been cooking up this scheme for months! While looking at the messages on my PC, I notice that the end of the messages shows the city each buyer is from. For some reason the app doesn’t show this info, no clue why. Anyway, both of the accounts are from the same very small city. At this point I make fun of this psychopath and tell him his ploy wasn’t even close to working. Both accounts try to play it off, each response about 5 or so minutes after the other. Every single time. Eventually I just start sending clown emojis. Added them both to the block list and now am sharing this wonderful story with you all.

Sorry for the long read, but I hope some of you get a good laugh out of this lol. Crazy the lengths people will go to out of pure spite.

Be careful with those kind of buyers. There are some disturbed people out there who go to great lengths out of spite.

This is reason #105 as to why I never respond to “customers” who make any kind of offers through messages. It never, ever works out well.

Was about to reply with this, basically. Engaging with Those People is never productive. You don’t have to justify your price, you don’t have to refute their claims of comps, you don’t have to reply to every boss, buddy, and chief. Just decline and move on.

I’ll be the first to admit I shouldn’t have engaged in the first place! Definitely a learning experience and also a reminder how crazy some people can be lol

Buyers who message are problems 90% of the time. I’ve only been selling for a couple months and have already had similar experiences… Anyone who messages me tryin to fight about a price or opinion → blocked. Make an offer I accept you request cancellation → blocked. Don’t pay for your order in over 7 days → blocked.

Engaging with these people can get dangerous. Especially for weirdos who have 69 accounts to lowball you into accepting crummy offers and give you a bad seller rating.

The block list is great.

“I have 5 accounts, 4 of which are fake accounts that I can use to harrass, abuse, and scam people, while keeping my real account clean.” But sometimes, I forget to change accounts, because I’m a thoughtless grifter.

Said no legitimate honest buyer, ever. Always sorry to see someone else have to deal with this.
*I will say, that I send messages, but always with the acknowledgement, that as a seller, you don’t have to accommodate me for squat. Assuming you’ll receive special treatment? Really? :unamused:
