E4 Vintage Thematic Set Event

EDIT: FULL INSTRUCTIONS HERE: E4 Vintage Thematic Set Event - #30 by lghzcollect

:double_exclamation_mark:The polls aren’t working very well, so before starting a drawing please make sure your Pokémon hasn’t already been chosen. To be safe, confirm your choice first by replying with the Pokémon you want to draw. Thanks!

Hi everyone! Thanks to the recent post by @lyleberr about the artistic skills of the forum members, I got an idea after drawing another card.
Why not create a vintage-style themed set for this forum? Everyone is free to participate.
Each member will have the chance to submit only one evolutionary line of their choice, or a single Pokémon (3 different ones for example)
Of course, you’ll need to reserve the Pokémon you want to draw beforehand to avoid duplicates.
The artworks will then need to be placed into a card layout (the style is still to be decided).

  • Wotc old layout
  • E-Series
  • Ex Era

If needed, I’m also available to help anyone who might have difficulties.
The time available would be 1 month.
All the artworks will be collected and placed into a virtual gallery / digital binder to showcase the entire first e4 set.
Set Theme:

  • Island theme
  • City theme
  • Nature theme (more generic)
  • Something more elaborate

As soon as the partecipants will decide the event will start, also if an admin could help organize this it would be really fantastic!
Could also be an annual thing just like the art contest. Let me know your thoughts

I have a question. Can I submit artwork done by my wife? I cant draw worth a Muk. I would maybe still participate though, but am not as talented as some people on the forum.

You can absolutely participate with artwork made by your wife as well. The only limitation is the number of entries per member, for example, you could submit one yourself and two made by your wife.
It’s absolutely not necessary to be amazing at drawing; everyone can participate. The only important thing is to keep in mind the main theme of the set once it’s decided.

In about a week, I’ll wrap things up with the result of the theme vote. After that, I’ll create a list of Pokémon that fit the chosen theme, along with a specific lore for the set, just like it would be for a regular card set.
I’ll post the list here after a short overall storyline to give some guidance for the aesthetic and mood. For example, if the theme ends up being an island, I’ll describe some specific locations on the island where you could place the Pokémon. This is mainly to keep a certain visual and stylistic consistency across the set. Aside from that, you’ll have plenty of creative freedom, the only requirement is that the Pokémon you illustrate fits the chosen setting.
The Pokémon list will be organized through a poll. Whoever votes first for the Pokémon they want to draw will be responsible for submitting the artwork within one month (I’ll provide exact dates later). If you choose a Pokémon, you’ll be able to draw its entire evolutionary line. If the Pokémon only has a single stage, you’ll be able to choose up to three different ones. This will still depend on how many people end up participating, but the idea would be to allow a maximum of three artworks per member.
In short, first come, first served!

I’ll also try to take into account the Pokémon you mention here, so I can potentially include them in the set’s lore. I’ll definitely include the Slowpoke line :handshake: @brendantheclayboy

I’d like to draw Raichu if possible. If not, then that’s fine, I’ll try anything!

Similarly to @eevee, I’m certainly no Smeargle. So it would be nice if i could get my daughter involved too, She has a lot more talent than me and it sounds like a fun bonding experience to share artworks.

I better get practising! There are some fantastic artists on e4 so this set will no doubt look incredible, I don’t want to let the set down too much being a complete amateur!

I will ponder the orb on joining! It sounds fun but I usually struggle to get the motivation whenever I have a deadline hehe. I’ll see if I can think of any ideas that inspire me!

I totally understand your point about the deadline. This will be the first time for me experiencing the thrill of working with a deadline, and especially with a guideline to follow.
Despite these limitations, it could still be a really interesting experience. In a way, it might even lead to more inspiration. I’m curious to see how I’ll react to it myself.

This is an awesome idea, I’m definitely in.

I’d like to do either the Reuniclus or Grimmsnarl line. I’ll take either; if somebody else wants one of them, I’ll do the other.

Thanks for the shout! I’m definitely in!
