@Josh Maybe I should have said “impressive” instead of amazing.

Title: Super Rod ( Neo Genesis)
After interviewing all Pokémon witnesses This is actually what was happening moments before the original card depiction. It really is a Super Rod!
That recreation is original as it gets haha, but amazing nevertheless.
Next year we will have to make a clarification we have never considered up 'til seeing it this year, which is that contestants were implied to only be able to submit one per category, 2 max categories. But for this year we can’t really correct that for any people who have done so. It is a creative “recreation” I will give you that, so I suppose we can leave it as is.
Recreating a Kinebuchi to live action is A+ idea btw =)
Oh and I’ll use this post as an opportunity to say… wow. Just wow. Competition gonna be STIFF this year. Amazing stuff already, just one day in!
@brendantheclayboy Sorry. Someone says expand on it in anyway and I loose control. Ha ha. Thanks for your flexibility… ![]()
First comes Rowlet playdate. Then comes… Rowlet supremacy.
Recreation
A Fierce Challenge!
This year, I wanted to recreate one of my favorite cards “Challenge!” From the Team Rocket set. This was my first time using Blender, and I had a lot of fun working with these models! Most of these models are from Pokémon Stadium.
Original Artwork:
We don’t wanna limit creativity, it’s awesome, don’t worry ![]()
Very technically you did recreate it and reimagined it, and A+++ for creativity in my opinion.
Here are my entries, sorry I’ve had to use a phone camera, I dont own a scanner.

Recreation is of Tentacruel from evolving skies
@brendantheclayboy . I did but kind of came on it by accident. My original idea was using Gyarados ancient origins, but catching Cramorant and Arrokuda instead, I liked the beginning drawing, but felt it didn’t fit a recreation of The gyarados card. Then I remembered the Super Rod card from there I sketched out the beginnings of what you see.
. I had enormous fun following this path, creating what might have been! Imaging what Pokémon saw the scene, I started adding all these hidden fun bits. (I hope everyone finds them!) I was going to not submit till next week, and keep adding, but was afraid I’d miss the deadline somehow and I didn’t want to overwhelm the original idea. Yeah I know it’s a lot! Inside my head can be scary.![]()

Aipom in the Outfield
Goldenrod City Baseball Field
Circa 2001
Maaaan. We got some film lovers here on the forum too? So pleased to see this. Beautiful camera too. Look at how f’ing good depth of field looks on the celluloid, LOOK! Nothing compares to 35mm, nothin’ at all.
How did you find Whitney? I need her signature
Film lover indeed! However, I must clarify that the photo was not actually shot on film. In the interest of time I used a digital camera (Fujifilm Xpro-2) and edited the photo in layers to create a filmic look.
The caption was just a fun way of adding lore and context to the idea. I chose the canon ae-1 and porta 400 combo because I have experience using it and it’s also historically accurate to 2001 (the Xpro-2 is not). My sincerest apologies! I see how that was misleading, that was not my intention. Perhaps using a fictional camera brand and film stock for the caption would be more appropriate. I’ll think of one before the submission period ends and update the caption. For now I’ll remove the first line. Again, my apologies to the organizers and contestants! ![]()
For transparency's sake, here was my process:
Original (cropped) photo
Added Pokemon (Ken Sugimori stock art)
Added depth of field
Added Whitney/Aipom (Ken Sugimori stock art) & more sun flare
Adjusted warmth, highlights/shadows, saturation, & added grain
The idea was an ode to the Ken Sugimori stock art images that were often applied to actual photos. I wanted to create one that looked like an actual photograph of an old memory.
This absolutely feels like Sugimori stock art and could totally belong to some 90s nintendo magazine or early 2000 website, it’s super nostalgic. I love mixed media art, you had an awesome idea!
I’ve been cheated! Curse modern editing capabilities! Lies! I’ve been made to look a fool!
heh, I kid, but thanks for the clarification – it truly had me convinced it was 35, so that reinforces how good the editing programs have become. Just can’t keep up with the technology. Now nothing is real ![]()
(and now I guess I can say, nothing looks as good as celluloid, and that’s why they make effects to mimic the look! hah! I win)
You are absolutely right though, nothing can truly replace the results or experience of shooting actual film.
