Day 1️⃣2️⃣

Chips. Pogs. Tazos. Caps. Every country seems to have a different name for these little circular things, and there are hundreds of different series out there. 🥴

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of collectibles that feel so random, but I did my best to document (and buy) every Scyther I managed to find. For simplicity, I’ve split them into two groups: Mains (English + Japanese) and Others (European / Asian / Latin American).

Today, we’re starting with the Mains. 🧑‍🔧

This first group covers the two main TCG languages - English 🇬🇧 and Japanese :jpnan:.

While the Japanese releases are a little easier to figure out (but by no means easy), the English ones are… well, not always actually English. Many European languages use Pokémon names exactly as they appear in the English version (only German and French translate them), so simply seeing “Scyther” doesn’t tell us much about where a chip comes from. Instead of focusing on their origin, I’ve included here the original/iconic series - the ones that became the foundation for many of the translated versions released around the world. 🌍

The second group is the already-mentioned Japanese chips 🇯🇵.

Being from the Pokémon country, Japan has had these releases documented quite extensively by collectors before me. While some series are pretty obscure or have interesting variations (like the rare holo Chara Spin metal chips), most Gen 1 Pokémon usually appear in most series, so tracking them down becomes more of a checklist game. ✅

The most frustrating ones to find are definitely the Banpresto Battle Chips. So far, I’ve documented 11 different Scyther releases, but I only own… 3 (2 are in the photo, and one is currently on its way). 🛬

There are many more that I do not own currently, but will be available on the database once it goes live!
