Out of curousity, do anyone else here collect anime?
Be it Bluray, DVD maybe even Laserdisc or VHS?
Whats the last title you bought?
As for myself, I collect anime on bluray, went blu-ray only last year, and its hard to watch DVDs after I did x3
(Not that DVDs can’t look better than bad blu-rays)
As for the last title I bought, last I recived was Night on the galactic railroad, last I ordered was Mayo Chiki.
My favorite releases I own is Anime Limited’s release of Baccano! and the Japanese release of Little witch academia.
I used to buy a lot of anime on DVD back in high school (which was like 10 years ago now) and basically still have my entire collection of what I consider to be classics stored away. Back then I thought that DVDs were gonna be it- that animation quality had already reached perfection at that point. How wrong I was in retrospect. x) Although the transition to Blu-ray was part of why I stopped buying- I never did get a Blu-ray player and it was pretty discouraging to know that so much of my stuff had become obsolete with HD remakes and what not. That being said, some old school original anime DVD releases can still fetch a pretty penny on eBay.
Not everything on DVD is aviable on blu-ray yet, so its not neccesary obsolete, not to forget that the Australian Sailor Moon DVDs apparently looks better than the American blurays. And there is still stuff released only on DVD
I know buying secondhand can be expensive, and its nice for people who wants to make money, but as someone who missed out on Squidgirl its kinda annoying
I don’t have a blueray player so it is still DVD. I mainly go for Pokemon and Dragonball DVds’ but have some stacks of un-watched anime DVDs bought at bargain prices!
I actually just watched Steins Gate recently and I gotta say… probably gets a masterpiece rating in my book. Best anime I’ve seen since Death Note. It started out so slow in the first half but the moment things started to pick up, the rest of it was jawdropping awesome.
If you like Death Note you guys should definitely check out Code Geass. I highly recommend it. They are similar in terms of characters trying to outsmart one another in clever ways.
The OP mentioned laserdisc so here’s a neat addition to my collection of geeky memorabilia that I got last month. Other than this I don’t really collect physical anime media though.
High five if you know of this piece of history
