Declared value higher than what I paid.

So recently (past couple months) I have made purchases from the US and Canada. 5/8 purchases have been marked with declared value as being $50 more than what I paid. I’ve had to pay customs on 3/8 of which 3 of them was of course the higher declared items meaning I had to pay extra customs fees.

All items were from different sellers and I informed the ones who marked the items higher. For those who said “sorry bud” I’m not dealing with them ever again.

From the past 10 years I have bought from the US I have only witnessed over declaring maybe 4 or 5 times. What has caused this recently? Are they just being lazy and marking whatever? Thoughts?

I think shipping/forwarding costs get added in to the declaration as well. That is my only guess.

They shouldn’t be getting added if that’s the case, as for OP the customs case to get money back is long and difficult but it can be done.
