I started collecting in high school after attending Worlds 2017 in Anaheim. Seeing so many collectors do deals at the trade corner opened up my eyes to the collecting world. This was also around the same time I created an instagram and was new to social media. Fast forward to 2026. I’m currently working a part time job, while also sitting on my laptop looking for full time STEM careers and replying to this thread. I’m not a wealthy person, nor do I have a wealthy background, but most of my collecting activity has been funded from selling cards and working various jobs. Ideally I’d love to have something stable and more sustainable in the future, but for now I work with the hand that I’m dealt. Someday I’d love to make a large transaction for something like a gold star psa 10, or maybe even a creatures deck psa 10. Hopefully that time comes soon haha ---

Grew up in a rather poor area. Can’t really recall ever buying singles. Mostly packs here and there. Throughout my early 20s I tried to save what I could and occasionally bought singles, but nothing more than $100 and it was probably rare for me to drop more than $50. Late 20s to now (mid 30s) really started ramping up in software/data engineering and now I make way more than I ever thought possible for my background and regional area. I owe a lot to where I am from a combination of extreme luck and perfect timing. I recognize that with the current market, nothing is guaranteed and my situation could turn on a dime at a moment’s notice, so my wife and I save and invest a ludicrously high percent of our income. Nowadays I admit I spend more on cards than I did in my younger years, but I still have the mentality of shopping for deals and being excruciatingly patient for things. As an example, I’ve been hunting FireRed & LeafGreen reverse holos and I just don’t want to drop $50 on a Gastly. So I’ll wait for auctions or low BINs for LP-NM reverses under $20, lol. If I buy “bigger” cards, I use funds from selling other cards and card accessories. Hard to shake the money habits of my first 25-ish years.
